Shelley gets the win over a none fighter with the none fighter landing a couple as well. Dominance by Shelley but with little landing. This doesn't deserve anything over a 6 as a lot of missing was going on.

Posted by shuckthefarks on February 23, 2011 at 01:40 PM

Have to give it to Shelley against a guy who doesn't fight up to his size. Shelley sure took some damage though. Was that the same Shelley that played for Columbus and used to run from Hordichump?

Posted by pepsigenerate on February 22, 2011 at 09:23 PM

Yonkman cuts shelley early but for some reason he wasn,t as active after that, camera man doesn,t show the damage on shelley after the fight, calling it a draw.

Posted by slavv on February 23, 2011 at 08:01 PM

Shelley was the busier fighter, but because Yonkman caused the damage he did, I called it a draw. Shelley did have the fight left in him though when Yonkman was down and vulnerable, so I can't argue with anybody calling it a win for Shelley...

Posted by Iceholes on February 23, 2011 at 11:58 AM

I have to go draw here just because Shelley had to get SIXTY stitches because of this fight. I'm sorry, but you can't call Yonkman a loser when he inflicts that much damage with the few big shots he landed.

Posted by johnnyrock555 on February 24, 2011 at 04:45 PM

I am going to call this a draw. Shelley landed more but Yonkman busted him open with at least two solid punches.

Posted by N_Roy on February 23, 2011 at 05:33 PM

Good fight! I call this one a draw, shelley landed 2 good shots the rest of them were landing on the back of yonkman's helmut or his shoulder pads. Yonkman landed the best punch of the fight exploding shelley's face and cutting him for 60 stiches. I guess to win a fight on this site you have to throw wild punches that don't land, and end up on top at the end of the fight.

Posted by nightfallfilms on February 23, 2011 at 02:05 PM

Jody Shelley needed 60 stitches to close three cuts in his forehead after a rock em, sock em fight with Nolan Yonkman in the second period. Each fighter connected with a pair of rights and Shelley immediately left the ice for medical attention. He did not return. DRAW

Yonkman needs to work on using his fists.

Posted by Big_Goon on March 04, 2011 at 12:30 PM

I had high hopes for Yonkman when he broke into the league with the Caps. Very large man, but made out of glass (constantly injured) and didn't utilize his size. Shelley schooled him here...

Posted by lakingsfan19 on February 22, 2011 at 09:07 PM

You insane if you think this is a draw. Clear win Shelly!

Posted by Bad Dawg on February 23, 2011 at 08:46 AM

Yonkman got beat down, plain and simple!

Posted by the bruiser1 on February 22, 2011 at 10:48 PM

yonkman was out of his league there

Posted by Behn Wilson on February 22, 2011 at 09:07 PM

Initially, it seems like Shelley is slightly leery of Yonkman, probably due to the latter's sheer size. But once ''the Yonk'' lands a couple of powder puff, jersey jabs Shelley quickly establishes that he poses no real threat, and proceeds to drop all signs of defence, as he goes to town on him. It's starting to look like ''Frankenshelley'' is really back.

Posted by Towmater on February 22, 2011 at 09:07 PM

Bled to win.

Posted by Sapunka16 on February 22, 2011 at 10:40 PM

Yonkman had no interest in fighting after the one punch that sent him off-balance, and it was clear once he went down a second time that he wanted nothing more than the fight to be over. Once Shelley landed the big right, Yonkman was turning away while throwing blindly, and made absolutely no effort to get back up once the final punch caused him to fall. Shelley's big right and aggressive finish made Yonkman give up, and because of this, Shelley is the clear winner.

Posted by glovedropper21 on February 22, 2011 at 10:12 PM

its about damn time shelley i almost gave up on you as a fighter

Posted by tootoo much4u on February 23, 2011 at 09:21 AM

Yonkman use to be a Milwaukee Admiral and I go to about 10 games a year and follow them closely. I think he sucks glad Mil got rid of him even tho he was wearing the C. Only thing he was good at was sticking up for his teammates and killed everyone he faught. Killed Clayton Stoner one time in the playoffs when stoner was on Huston.

Posted by LawsonBarkhouse on February 27, 2011 at 11:35 AM

Clear win Jody Shelley.

Posted by QUIGGS22 on February 23, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Shelley bleeds & wins easily !

Posted by decostamail on February 23, 2011 at 01:20 PM

This wasn't yonks 1st rodeo. He's a mountain trying to make the big club. But he better learn to take a punch. He asked for a beating and he got it! Shelleys has a head full of scar tissue from almost 200 NHL bouts. Dudes skin is like tissue paper. He's a bleeder I think yonks thought he dropped Shelley with the 1st bomb. And all it did was piss 45 off

Posted by lb1631 on February 23, 2011 at 10:41 AM

Nice job by shelley. Yonkman catches him with a right and cuts him.

Posted by hkhk on February 23, 2011 at 12:16 AM

shelley rebounding nicely with couple wins lately wish the flyers would unleash him and carbomb a little more tired of watching nodl

Posted by b.t.wilson on February 22, 2011 at 09:27 PM

oh god, shelley, THANK YOU. the shell comes storming back and absolutely destroys the yonk, man. look at those sweeping rights, that is one big-ass arc. those were like barry zito curveballs, only thunderous. a long overdue impressive display. i'm feeling generous tonight, 8. absolutely, total, whole, undeniable proof that he who bleeds doesn't always lose.

Posted by staceyb on February 23, 2011 at 06:31 AM

Shelley with the win despite the punch that turned his face into a gusher. Nolan Yonkman is no rookie; he's been bouncing around in the minors for ten years. I'm sure he enjoys jet travel and five star hotels rather than the bus route and Holiday Inns. Taking on Shelley he wants to show Tippett and Maloney that he should stay with the parent team.

Posted by bruiser11 on February 23, 2011 at 01:25 AM

Oh no Shelley most definetly took the win in that one.

Posted by bruins rule on February 23, 2011 at 08:11 AM

Posted by chrisuko on February 24, 2011 at 08:19 PM

Yonkman is sorta a pussy

Posted by fernben8 on February 22, 2011 at 09:10 PM

The new student learns from one of the professors... Don't know much about Yonkman, Has the size and looks like he can throw but has to toughen up the chin a little. You can tell he was in trouble to how he reacted on the first jersey jab . To his credit, he did get one in on Shelley. Win Jody. Will give it a 7.

Posted by woodsy88 on February 23, 2011 at 02:10 PM

Love Shelley, good to see him back in the win column. Shelley has had the same cut on his face all season, thats why it split open so easy!

Posted by cigaros on February 23, 2011 at 12:15 PM

Yonklman needs to move better. He moves, he wins. Because Shelley was lucky to get those two shots in.

Posted by GagsFightsToo on February 24, 2011 at 01:58 PM

I don't know why people say Yonk brought Shelley down to size. He made Jody look like a titan. 7

Posted by tocchetblue on February 23, 2011 at 06:40 AM

Flyers need a tough guy

Posted by AZfromNJ on February 22, 2011 at 10:12 PM

Yonkers doing his Tex Cobb immitation takes huges bombs from Shelley but hangs in and represents well. Easy win Shelley, no shame Yonkers More importantly he played a heck of a game stepping in Jovo's spot as the NHL's hottest team continue their surge towards the playoffs.

Posted by koolpunch on February 22, 2011 at 11:21 PM

Nice work by Shelley to overcome a huge reach disadvantage. First with the j-jabs, then with some punishing rights. I'm sure Yonkman could do better, but tonight he belonged on a basketball court...

Posted by mudman55 on February 24, 2011 at 07:25 AM

Great bout. Couple heavyweights doing their thing. And how great a name is "Nolan Yonkman"? W Shelley.

Posted by soldierswifey83 on February 23, 2011 at 12:00 AM

it was totally about time that Shelley decided to come on out and slowly start working his way back to his old self. its so sad that alot of hockey games now a days are more like the icecapades. I appreciate a good fight and alot of physicalness hence why its a physical sport. I think Shelley took this one all the way. he might have had to get stiches but he never gave up and gave it to Yonk who.....

Posted by Muscles on February 23, 2011 at 04:11 PM

I didn't know Jody still had that in him. Decisive win; good for him.

Posted by LA KING FANATIC on February 23, 2011 at 07:40 PM

Way to go Jody, kicked his ass solid. His face tears easy but he beat the crap out of Nolan..Nice bout for Shelley

Posted by DARCY T on February 27, 2011 at 08:20 AM

this is kind of heavyweight fights i like.but we dont see many of them too often..shelley landed some heavy haymakers.yonkman landed a couple of good ones too but shelley got decisive win..gave it 8

Posted by dansal55 on February 26, 2011 at 09:24 AM

Yonk got konked. He got a couple in early, but once Shelley got it going and tagged him good, Yonk didn't want any part of it. Credit for staying up, but his head being in a different zip code than his body says he was looking for the exit. Hard to blame him. Shelley is underrated, IMO.

Posted by tyrone on February 23, 2011 at 09:49 AM

Shellster finally back into form. Big W for the Shellsterenko.

Posted by bickerjr on February 23, 2011 at 06:21 AM

Shelley with the win but took 60 stitches after the fight, watching it live and it was a nasty cut on the one shot Yonkman got in. Tough to say a win after 60 stitches but Shelley hasn't won many this year so give him the victory because he pounded on Yonkman most of the fight.

Posted by brazos on February 23, 2011 at 06:19 PM

Yonk picked out a tough opponent for his first real major league tilt. Showed up well, but despite the cuts Shelley was the winner.

Posted by BooSanta on February 25, 2011 at 08:45 PM

Going into this, most of us knew The Shell has been getting shelled quite a bit this year and doesn't fight defensive, so he's getting slit opened in the same spot above the nose. Yonkman was bound to score here and busted open a jar of Ragu on Shell's lid. That didn't stop the wiley brazen vet. The yonk got tuned up in the end, and was rocked with rights to the side of his head. He only had a few dents the next day while Shell had 60 stitches to close up his brains. You can't seem to hurt Shell. And you better keep firing or he'll pay you back 10 fold like he did here. Win Shell

Posted by tim13 on February 23, 2011 at 09:15 AM

Shelley was a monster in this one. Ate one early and came back and pounded the big man.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on February 22, 2011 at 08:54 PM

Dude got Yonked

Posted by rocky 1 on February 24, 2011 at 01:44 PM

Yonkman landing the better punches as seen by the bloody face of Shelly but Shelly busier so i give him the slight edge in this one.Closer fight than the voting indicates.Again the homers acting like there fighter is the league champ. Can you say Boogard or Scott. There the leagues best hands down.Nice to see Shelly getting better though!

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on February 22, 2011 at 10:47 PM

Shelley all the way!

Posted by kimo_coyote on February 23, 2011 at 01:28 PM

As Coyote fan I still have to give it to Shelley, Yonkman got in a couple but Shelley dominated. Experience and desire paid off. If and when Yonkman realizes if you're going to fight, you have to engage. Shelley has been on the wrong end too often since McGratton destroyed him. Good to see the "Vet" came back. Hope he is back soon from the 60 stiches.

Posted by mctuttle on February 22, 2011 at 08:44 PM

Wow. Good effort by Yonkman to try to come back after getting thunderstruck early but he was totally owned.

Posted by sedinfan on February 24, 2011 at 12:16 AM

Shelley gives him a nasty lesson on how to throw them.

Posted by down5717 on February 23, 2011 at 12:12 PM

Shelley takes a quick pop to the face, but doesn't really seem to care, as he clearly handles the tempo of the fight. About half way through Yonkman totally gives up and tries to keep his face as far away from Shelley's fist as possible. Clear win to Shelley, but Yonkman gets a little bit of credit for the one good shot he got in.

Posted by Bluetiedown44 on February 23, 2011 at 11:35 PM

Shelley is resurgent, he tenatively approaches the larger Yonkman, who is eager to earn an NHL paycheck again. Yonkman is a minor league vet with many fights under his belt, he even spent some time with the Caps. Shelley looks as good as he has in a year.

Posted by tonetone1 on February 22, 2011 at 08:38 PM

Posted by jim_mckenzie33 on February 23, 2011 at 01:38 AM

Props to Shelley.....he's looked washed up at times this year but has come alive of late...in this one he got off first, took advantage of the kid's tentativeness and pulverized Yonkers. Credit the rookie though with landing a bomb on Jody's beak and bloodying the vet......GOOD TILT LADS !!!

Posted by GreatMurray on February 24, 2011 at 06:36 AM

Wow! Yonkman tries to solidify is position on the team by getting on with a real tough guy! Good for him. Jody needed 60 stitches and a transfusion but he won the brawl hands down!!

Posted by TommyGun29 on February 23, 2011 at 09:21 AM

Pretty good scrap .. gave it an 8> Yonkman is a big boy and landed one good one that cut Shelley who seems to be a bleeder. The old veteran managed to land plenty of haymakers and the big guy didn't like it too much. Goot give him props for not folding right away because that first one was a good one!

Posted by drock_rust on February 23, 2011 at 11:17 AM

Shelley is an offensive fighter for the most part he gets tagged in all his bouts but doesn't seem to care much. Win for Shelley as he takes on the bigger man in Yonkman. More quality punches by Shelley even with a busted open face.

Posted by Blackbeard101 on February 22, 2011 at 09:56 PM

Shelley seems rejuvenated this season with some good wins (like a good solid win over Shawn Thornton earlier this year); took a solid right that opened him up, but delivered much more fire power than Yonk....Shelley with the victory here.

Posted by VolcmStone23 on February 22, 2011 at 08:52 PM

Yonkman is a big guy and was ballsy to fight him. Made him bleed and got some good hits in but Shelley won.

Posted by seedy on February 22, 2011 at 11:09 PM

The best was how pissed Yonkman was coming out of the box from the penalty Shelly had just gaoded him in to 2 minutes earlier. He's breathing through hhis mouth all dramatic like as they square off - then gets SHELLY'ED

Posted by sieges on February 22, 2011 at 11:33 PM

Shelley may have gotten busted open, but he still destroyed Yonkman. It's nice to see a little red with the orange and black.

Posted by BoneCrusher9 on February 22, 2011 at 11:48 PM

The first decisive win for Shelly that i've seen all year. Tonight you earned it. Good Job.

Posted by b_mcg13 on February 23, 2011 at 09:00 AM

I was at the game, and even though Shelley looked worse for wear, he was the victor of the fight.

Posted by truebee_69 on February 23, 2011 at 09:31 PM

Shelley with the obvious win. Gave it a good 8. I don't care where the blood came from on this one because Shelley did the whooping in this fight. Yonkman looks like a big dude that could be an enforcer none-the-less. Entertaing fight!

Posted by EDDUBBS on February 24, 2011 at 09:19 PM

TKO Yankman went down to the hand after getting totally pummeled by Shelley,

Posted by fridaymatinee on February 23, 2011 at 11:26 AM

:20 in Yonkman realizes what he got himself into. that punch from Shells sealed the win right there. And the look on Shells face after the first 2 rabbit jabs, you can see him go from "ok this dude is big" to "oh f*@&# you I'm going to eat you" Anyone who voted for a Yonkman win needs to stop watching hockey.

Posted by mrunohoo on February 22, 2011 at 11:16 PM

George Parros skating school rears it's ugly head again. If Yonkman could learn how to A-Stand up and B-Take a shot, he might be a decent heavyweight. I only counted one landed shot but it left Shelley bloodied. Win Shelley

Who were the thimbleheads calling this fight on the video? Were they even watching the fight that was taking place? Yonkman got in one good shot and then proceeded to get pounded by Shelley. By the end of the fight, Yonkman wanted no parts of it. Clear win by Shelley.

Posted by Flyers20Fan on February 24, 2011 at 04:12 PM

W Shelley Another good performance by Shelley, its been about 6 straight wins or draws after his slow start its amazing how shelley just ate those early punches and then controlled the rest of the fight

Posted by Edsmo on February 26, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Not sure how Shelley gets all the kudos here. I heard two days later that Shelley needed 16 stitches for his effort, which to me means Yonkman wins. Considering the beating Engelland gave Shelley in October, somebody should ask him if he's taking Coumadin.

Posted by ndeciant on February 23, 2011 at 11:20 AM

I thought Shelley had won the fight but I read in the paper today that Shelley had to get 60 stitches after the fight.... yeah its not a type-o.... 60 Yonkman must have concrete hands cause I didn't see any real bombs.

Posted by nypd6476 on February 24, 2011 at 11:55 AM

Way to many Flyer and non hockey fans voting on this fight. Shelley landed maybe 2 punches and thats it. It was trying to over power Yonkman but didn't happen. Does anyone see how many quality punches Yonkman landed. Does anyone see what Shelleys face looks like. That is not Yonkmans blood. Come on Flyer fans vote right. You guys know better then that. For the non hockey fans you shouldn't even be on this site.

Posted by IMPEACH on February 23, 2011 at 11:54 AM

Most of Shelley's wild, telegraphed rights missed or hit helmet. Who told Holmgren to sign this guy? Yonkman landed the best punch. Shelley needed 60 stitches. Win Yonkman.

Posted by phreespeech on February 22, 2011 at 10:58 PM

Shelley gets bloodied up by a call-up? thumbs down for the designated tough guy!

Posted by sulley71 on February 23, 2011 at 10:59 AM

I give Shelley the slight edge but he's given too much credit for those punches hitting the side of Yonkmans helmet. Yonkman landed the best shots by far, however since shelley threw more and knocked him down, I give him the W

Posted by jimkj on February 23, 2011 at 06:35 AM

he heads to the locker room right after! Shelley bleed like a girl!

Posted by kinga101 on February 23, 2011 at 02:14 PM

Difficult fight to judge. You have to look at it several times to see who landed what. At first glance it was all Shelley, but I don't think he landed anything other than helmet or shoulder shots while Yonkman obviously landed some extremely damaging blows. I would rather have been the loser in this fight, suffering only a cracked helmet instead of a cracked face.

Posted by cccurtis21 on February 23, 2011 at 02:00 PM

Skated like hell off the ice, W Yonkman no stitches needed for the big fellow although he bowed out at the end.

Posted by STL13 on February 24, 2011 at 05:51 AM

Depending on what you consider a win. Is it a win if you leave the game and head to the lockeroom because your bleeding like a "stuck pig" from a punch? In this case, WIN Shelley Is it a win if you get punched more often but turn the other guys face into a bloody mess and ge him off the oce to get his face fixed? In this case, WIN Yonkman My common sense says Shelley won the battle but lost the war. Yeah, he manhandled Yonkman but he paid a price. No other option but to call it a draw!

Posted by Oil Can Henry on February 23, 2011 at 12:35 AM

Yonkman was throwin' blindly, hoping something would land,...just, another "big guy" with no balance -- Shelley took him to school.

Posted by travist on February 22, 2011 at 11:08 PM

man...shelley had that gash but he solidly won that fight. his hand had to hurt from those helmet shots. and b.t. wilson: thanks, your comments cracked me up!

Posted by FHgrad99 on February 23, 2011 at 03:17 PM

Both guys were swinging for the fences in this one. Shelly landed more good shots and he got the win. Yonkman showed that he has a heck of a chin to take some of the shots he took and stayed in there and kept throwing punches. Pretty good fight.

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on February 23, 2011 at 12:59 PM

What a bout, Shelley rocks the Yonk, then the Yonk gets three in a row right on the button, then Shelley comes back to take the Yonk down. Giving it to Shelley despite taking a little punishment, but that just shows his metal. Good to see the Yonk get a run in the NHL agains, let's hope we see more of him.
