Draw. Give credit to Chara for fighting a 4th liner, but Chara ended the fight as quickly as he could. What a surprise.

Posted by buzzgun2000 on December 17, 2011 at 10:33 PM

Poor Shelley. The guy is looking for something to do to scrape up some ice minutes so he decides to challenge King Kong. Nothing more exciting than watching two guys trying to get the other to throw up dinner with the paint shaker jersey jabs.

Posted by Viper207 on December 17, 2011 at 06:05 PM

Barely a fight. Wild jersey jabs (when do you hear THAT?) that don't land, nothing connects, and a lame takedown from Chara. Draw and a whopping 4.

Posted by brymaster1 on December 17, 2011 at 04:15 PM

Nice bail Chara.

Posted by Joceron on December 18, 2011 at 01:01 AM

eh- draw, 3

Posted by slavv on December 19, 2011 at 11:43 AM

Draw... no more, no less.

Posted by boxerlavean5 on December 20, 2011 at 01:06 AM

How in the hell does Chara win this fight? for taking down Shelley like he does to just about all his opponents that he's afraid to go toe to toe with? No good punches even landed. Complete draw but Bruins fans will make Chara win in the voting of course. Hope Scott fights Chara once and for all.

DRAW

Posted by Crowdpleezr on December 20, 2011 at 12:15 AM

Crap fright. Chara didn't win. He ended it. Shelly w/ jersey jabs, and while those are good for control & disruption, they don't win fights. Draw... Having said all that, I think Chara did Shelly a favor. Dude's a horse.

Posted by RetardedChimp on December 18, 2011 at 01:23 PM

Naturally, Chara bails on this fight before it gets going. Take downs only score wins for people who don't follow hockey fighting.

Posted by hkhk on December 18, 2011 at 12:22 AM

draw here was there and 20,000 loved it see nhl execs this is hockey yes my flyers lost today but great to see hockey back the Bruins look unstoppable total team effort team toughness all teams should be built this way homer bring up klotz or sestito zolneck is horrible why dress another tough guy harry z plays 5 mins anyway of lost and confused hockey..

Posted by srehm1 on December 18, 2011 at 01:13 PM

Not much, some jersey jabs and they go down.

Lots of swings and misses *Yawn

Posted by blazers76 on December 18, 2011 at 06:41 PM

Typical Chara. Throw a pumch or two and take his opponent to the ground. Draw.

Whats with chara standing over the guy with his arm coked, give it a rest already.we know your 7 feet tall.draw.

Posted by bruiser11 on December 18, 2011 at 12:55 AM

Ah they really weren't at it long enough there to determine a winner.

Posted by pepsigenerate on December 18, 2011 at 12:01 AM

DRAW!!...anyone that gets close in on chara and that can take a punch will chop chara on his A$$ definetly.

Posted by Double Nickels on December 19, 2011 at 12:46 PM

I'll take that trade off any day. Nice to see Chara square off for a change; I've had about enough of him jumping guys in scrums or whenever he decides to charge in from the point. Giving Chara a win for that is a bit of an overstatement--tackles only count in football. The fight was a draw--not much landed either way.

Posted by bloodonyourlips on December 18, 2011 at 01:29 PM

Lol @ BB22, again so biased toward the Bruins it's ridiculous, I seem to remember Chara being afraid of Laraque in the the not too distant past. As for the fight, kudos to Shelley for taking on the giant and landing the only decent punch in the fight. Chara is a wrestler, not a puncher and I have never seen him go toe to toe with anyone legit.

Posted by FightsOfHockey on December 17, 2011 at 04:59 PM

shelley did well actually draw

Posted by Puckmagnet on December 18, 2011 at 03:17 AM

Not much to pick from here. Neither guy really got going here. Shelley, giving up 6 inches may have scored a decent shot, Chara was just interested in the takedown. Draw

Posted by nixu on December 18, 2011 at 04:50 AM

Chara won? i dont think so. He didnt landed anything and he was the one who choise to end that fight and wrestle Shelley down. Clear draw.

Posted by mckendo83 on December 19, 2011 at 12:41 PM

Shelley : wanna be on HBO? Chara: OK Shelley: Lets go

Posted by DARCY T on December 18, 2011 at 03:23 PM

too bad that chara wrestled shelley to the ice.draw in short fight.gave it a 5

Posted by scorp1on on December 18, 2011 at 11:48 AM

Draw. Shelly with the composure and better punches. Chara with the size to end the fight whenever he felt like it... too soon, in my opinion, to give him a win.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on December 18, 2011 at 07:40 PM

seemed to me Chara bailed on the fight. Gonna go with a Draw

Posted by boldbilly on December 18, 2011 at 03:12 PM

This fight was at best a draw. Chara lands nothing of concequence what a joke when a bruin fights BRUIN SUPPORTERS ALWAYS VOTE FOR THE BRUIN.......WHAT DID CHARA DO TO WIN THIS I WATCHED IT 5 TIMES.........THE ONLY THING THAT CHARA WINS HERE IS AN AWARD FOR THE SIDE SHOW FREAK THAT HE IS.

Posted by sulley71 on December 17, 2011 at 10:59 PM

Solid draw, I thought Shelley landed the best shot!

Posted by kinga101 on December 17, 2011 at 07:19 PM

A lot of jersey jabbing and missing rights in this draw. Actually the only punch that appeared to land was Shelley's.

Posted by GreatMurray on December 18, 2011 at 07:57 AM

Obvious bias by the Boston fans here. No punches landed. No points for the takedown. Draw Good job by Shelly getting Chara off the ice. You have to love the way the Boston Mgmt. has constructed this team. Physicality and Skill mixed perfectly. North American Hockey at its best. I am a Wings fan but I DVR every Bruins game. Philly has to be really concerned about their team. Their route to the cup HAS to go through Boston. The non-physical teams like Detroit and Tampa have fared better than Philly. The Flyers looked like the hapless Caps yesterday.

Posted by The_Famous_Beak on December 18, 2011 at 06:26 PM

I don't think either of them got any good hits. Chara isn't a good fighter. He's just a giant with power. He doesn't have much experience fighting. Shelley is average. Therefore it's a draw

Posted by kurri17 on December 18, 2011 at 01:19 AM

Draw. At the first sign of trouble, Chara went for his patented "take-down." I'm not sure whose bailouts are funnier...Chara's or Jamal Mayers'.

Posted by LawsonBarkhouse on December 17, 2011 at 07:31 PM

Not a big fight but then again chara can't fight,he's just big!!!Once again Shelley shows he's a throwback to the glory days.I really would like to see someone charas' size go with him.Biggest Heart ...Shelley...fight was a Draw

Posted by ThrowdownSJ408 on December 17, 2011 at 05:36 PM

Finally JS gets a scrap!

Posted by Sasky001 on December 20, 2011 at 12:12 AM

Shelley took a diuve as soon as he knew Chara was off for five. Weak.

Posted by jlmcgui on December 19, 2011 at 07:52 PM

Let's be real ... a washed-up enforcer, hanging on to the 'end of his glory days', challenges a Norris Trophy, All-Star defenseman ... where is the respect? Shelley should be embarassed; and I would be willing to bet that Mr's Thornton, McQuaid and Lucic WILL NOT forget this the next time Boston and Philly play. Grow up Jody Shelley ... better yet; RETIRE!

Posted by swagdad on December 17, 2011 at 06:25 PM

people never seem to put in an unbiased vote... i don't understand how Shelley won this... if you're a flyers fan at least say draw. sheesh

Posted by nait on December 18, 2011 at 05:24 PM

gotta love the little kid at the end, also i dont count the shirt holding hits unless they are good ones

Posted by BooSanta on December 21, 2011 at 11:16 PM

Look what washed up on the rink.. a Shelley. Nothing he could do but land a Jersey Jab against the bigger Zit. Zit popped off numerous JJs and got the takedown. Would have wanted them both to go longer. In a way, a mighty effective vic for Zit though, as the Bru Cru started an unanswered blitz of scoring right after this fight.

Posted by zem11 on December 18, 2011 at 09:06 PM

for all those that voted shelley won the fight i need some of what your smoking... he swung once lol and i dont think his arm was long enough to hit chara. Chara always seems to be wrestling them down lately he needs to put a lickin on some of these guys that want to test him....

win to Chara, but respect to Shelley for not backing down.

Posted by brianamoro on December 17, 2011 at 05:09 PM

Not much landing here, slight edge to chara

Posted by msanford on December 18, 2011 at 09:50 AM

This one was clearly staged for HBO 24/7. Why the hell else would Chara give Shelley the time of day and why is Shelley on the ice two minutes into a 0-1 game.

Posted by capsfloors on December 18, 2011 at 09:25 AM

Draw to edge Chara ... not much happened in the fight itself.... Shelly took off the ice one of the B's best players for 5 mins.... No reason for Chara to even fight Shelly... oh and tpr1960 sucks!

Posted by wingers on December 17, 2011 at 04:53 PM

Huge mismatch of talent. Chara taking on a very experienced fighter who plays 1/6 his minutes. Great tradeoff for Flyers, poor trade for Bruins. This was more of a statement fight for both teams. If Thornton had fought Pronger the flyers fans would be crying but Chara risked injuring his hand on that cement head and was happy just to win the fight. He really has no business fighting at all, he can play hockey. EDDUBBS is a moron for thinking Shelley deserves credit for giving up size when obviously he is the one egging Chara into the fight, for thinking Chara is a great fighter (he's not, just big and has guts to throw em occasionally) Shelley only deserves credit for getting chara off the ice for 5 minutes, which didn't help his team on the way to a 6-0 loss. P.S. EDDUBBS is ignorant with his nuclear wasteland comment.

Posted by fernben8 on December 18, 2011 at 08:48 AM

Shelly looked pretty calm knowing he was going to go against Chara... It was pretty close till the lean on me take-down, Edge to Chara.

Posted by mudman55 on December 18, 2011 at 07:31 AM

I give the slightest of edges to Chara- he landed a few more jersey jabs, I think, but I could easily go with draw here too. It is notable that Jody Shelley isn't tiny, and when Chara shoved him down, he did so with ease. I think Chara is freakish. I'd rather fight Shaq, and like 2001 Shaq, before he got fat and lazy. And that last right from Shelley- I don't think it reached..

Posted by carchop on December 19, 2011 at 08:29 PM

If you can't beat 'em, I guess you have to take a whipping to get them off the ice.

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 27, 2016 at 07:04 PM

Edge Zdeno Chara.

Posted by Tonski on January 09, 2012 at 08:29 PM

Gotta say I believe if Chara wasn't so big I'm not sure he wins this fight. His size won this for him plain and simple, no other reason.

Posted by BigBadBruin22 on December 18, 2011 at 04:39 AM

If u voted Shelley the winner here, you're an idiot. Who cares though anyways. That goon lost to a Norris Trophy contender who barely fights anymore. He usually doesn't waste his time or need to, but when he does, he doesn't lose. He doesn't win pretty, but he never gets hurt or dominated, EVER. FYI, if Scott remains in this league long enough, he can challenge Chara if he likes, and they'll fight. Chara isn't afraid of anyone and he will go with him. I'd like to see it myself. Personally I think McGratton and MacIntyre are both scarier punchers than Scott. I'd like those fights to happen!

Posted by Behn Wilson on December 17, 2011 at 09:03 PM

Props to Shelley for... A) goading Chara into fighting way below his pay-grade, and, B) doing the best he could, once it got going... but, credit where credit's due... it's also clear, that it was more than just size, alone that allowed Chara to cruise to a, seemingly, easy victory, over a totally-legit, ''heavy'' Chara-Scott would, definitively, answer that question, once and for all.

Posted by Helmut on December 19, 2011 at 05:02 PM

You can call Shelley the greatest fighter of all time for all I care. But no way Chara should ever fight a pile of feces like him.

Posted by Wensinkfan on December 18, 2011 at 03:50 PM

Chara had Shelley under control for almost the entire fight. Good throwing but too bad that not a ton landed. Chara`s father was a pro greco roman wrestler-not the wwe b.s. but the real deal. I think Chara put him down when he wanted to. Great fight by both with Chara the winner.

Posted by Jellyczar on December 17, 2011 at 09:14 PM

Chara wins the fight as Shelley fades out of the NHL .... probably to get his GED for 8th grade......

Posted by pmarz1 on December 17, 2011 at 10:13 PM

Where are all the douchebag habs fans weighing in on this one?? Oh, that's right, they're looking for a new coach......HAHAHAHA!!!

Posted by moneybags on December 17, 2011 at 05:07 PM

Shelley really got the wrong team going! Chara could have caved his head in but let the idiot go....poor showing by Philly today..they lost the fights and the game...oh yea, stupaldo won with a non-fighter..dodged the real fighters nicely tho

Posted by Canner on December 18, 2011 at 01:48 AM

ha ha ha , get UR icetime now Shel b4 the playoffs come, if Ur even still around then.....Chara, his uppercut was the best shot

Posted by homeland on December 19, 2011 at 11:12 AM

I get the feeling that Chara doesnt want to hurt people in fights. After he hits them a few times he always goes for the take down. Of course he is always in a "no win" situation because people will say he only fights smaller guys.

Posted by 9more on December 17, 2011 at 04:50 PM

Shelly turtled before the hammer got going.

Posted by sedinfan on December 17, 2011 at 04:35 PM

Not a great fight, kudo's to Shelley for giving it a go, but the edge to Chara for sure.

Posted by nickfotiu on December 17, 2011 at 06:19 PM

Z waisted him. Shelley is a bum. Easily the worst player in the NHL. Luckily for Shelley not many punches thrown. Big uppercut by Chara ended it. Flyers going nowhere without Giroux. B's good enough to repeat.

Posted by nojjon on December 17, 2011 at 10:41 PM

CHara wins, at least he actulaly threw some punches here, usualy he uses his size to force the player down. I would like to see Chara take on someone like John Scott. But that is unlikely considering Chara value to the Bruins.

Posted by Lucic_Power on December 18, 2011 at 12:40 AM

You cant beat Chara,...sorry

Posted by abcde on December 17, 2011 at 06:30 PM

Posted by Mark1967 on December 18, 2011 at 10:54 PM

Chara with a slight edge.

Posted by BruinsBeatdown on December 17, 2011 at 04:19 PM

Close fight and almost a draw, but Chara with the slightest edge. Also due to the blood on the side of Shellys head at 1:25.

Posted by jedwardmac on December 21, 2011 at 02:05 PM

I love how Chara is judged as if he is an enforcer. He is the anchor on that defense and is still willing to throw down. As far as I am concerned all he has to do is hang around long enough to let the other guy know he is willing to take their best shot. Once they can't give it to him, he SHOULD shut the fight down so he doesn't get some stupid injury.

Posted by Ethan Bernstein on December 17, 2011 at 11:34 PM

The whole game was a lose for the Flyers. They couldn't even win the fights. GO BRUINS

Posted by BaustinBeatdown on December 18, 2011 at 02:54 PM

for a tough guy shelley had no answer for chara and as for the tradeoff bostons defense is second to none even withoout bigz

Chara takes on the Philly meathead Shelley and tunes him up.

Posted by bruins rule on December 17, 2011 at 05:32 PM

chara gets the win in this fight.

Posted by slainte12 on December 19, 2011 at 01:26 PM

Wow, easy win for Chara, not sure how anyone can justify a draw vote. Shelley should be checked for whiplash with all those lefts Chara gave him causing his head to flop back and forth like a rag doll. Clearly many Philly & anti-Boston fans getting their vote on with this one. The only thing Shelley won was Chara's mercy when instead of continuing the beating, he mercifully put him to the ice.

Posted by NovaScotiaBag on December 18, 2011 at 08:57 AM

Love when the big guy drops the mits. Chara handles the former Moosehead captain with ease, and gets the Gordie Howe Hat-trick. I watched Thornton pump Scott pre-season and I'm pretty sure Chara would do the same.

Posted by ironface on March 02, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Not sure how Shelley got so many votes here unless we have a bunch of "cheering for the underdog" posters. Jody got one good shot in but it is clear by the 38 second mark with Chara's uppercut/right cross combo that Shelley is stunned. The result, win Chara but loss for the B's as any time big Z goes to the box for 5 it is never a good thing.

Posted by THRASHIN on December 17, 2011 at 04:04 PM

Quick, very even bout. Slight edge to Chara for those big hits to the head near the end and the take down. Props to Shelley for "getting" Chara off the ice. Too bad it didn't work to hurt the Bruins defense.

Posted by Jointman on December 18, 2011 at 06:13 AM

All the way big Z, only Philly homers could wote otherwise, Chara would kill him..

Posted by Big Little Tank on April 03, 2012 at 07:52 PM

A rare win for Chara over a real fighter. But in reality, nothing is 100%. ;-)

Posted by bossman34 on December 18, 2011 at 05:11 PM

slight edge to Chara. props to Shelly for taking on a huge man

Posted by jeagle12212012 on December 17, 2011 at 10:15 PM

Chara say's I'm Back

Posted by J.M. on July 07, 2012 at 08:10 PM

Two superheavyweights here. Shelley realizes early on that he is outreached and can only really land a couple of decent jersey-jabs. Chara proceeds to knock Shelley a little silly at the 37 second mark and end the fight with ease by dragging Shelley down. Win Chara, despite Shelley's feigned incredulousness skating to the box that he wanted the fight to go longer.

Posted by joeye4 on December 18, 2011 at 08:59 AM

Not even close. Chara dominates Shelly just like the Bruins dominated the game. Chumps once again in Philly.

Posted by mcb798 on December 18, 2011 at 12:32 PM

all shelley in this scrap.

Posted by Leafs2006 on December 17, 2011 at 05:41 PM

Shelley is a has been, but Chara the circus freak is the most hated man on earth, for that, I'm voting Shelley. Nice wrestle down move, freak, stand toe to toe for a change.

Posted by mr hockey on December 20, 2011 at 11:15 PM

win shelley close though

Posted by woolly mammoth on December 18, 2011 at 07:02 AM

Giving Shelley the win because Chara didn't want much to do with him after Shelley got a punch or two in. Chara just took him down to end the fight. It could be a draw, but the fight ended so abruptly because of Chara.

Posted by Blackbeard101 on December 18, 2011 at 02:08 AM

Have to give the slight edge to Shelley for challenging King Kong and being the aggressor and backing up Chara at the outset. Nothing much landed from Chara besides a few jersey jabs; Shelley with a big right that landed and earned him the close victory. You'll never see Chara fight anyone close to his size (like John Scott or Steve McIntire or even someone like McGratton), so all you clowns that say Chara is the toughest thing on ice are just talking hometown nonsense!! Thornton is the only Bruin who will fight the NHL heavyweights.

Posted by weidnerr on December 20, 2011 at 08:35 PM

Shelley landed the only punch....Chara decided to throw him down instead of box.

Posted by Clark75 on December 17, 2011 at 06:45 PM

Not sure why Chara gets the win here. He didn't land anything. Shelley landed more effective shots. Win goes to Shelley.

Posted by datafortress on December 24, 2011 at 02:47 AM

Easy win for Shelley

Posted by QUIGGS22 on December 17, 2011 at 04:46 PM

Looks to me like Chara didnt want to fight after he took one to the mellon..win Shelley.

Posted by stizzo on December 18, 2011 at 11:17 PM

Meh - Chara seemed like he didn't want anymore challenge and just said "Chara Push Down - Roar!" - could have been a good one.

Posted by Dovermv on December 17, 2011 at 10:05 PM

Chara did nothing becuase he was fighting sombody close to his size. What a joke he is. Win Shelley. Chara did not throw at all, pushing Shelley down to stop the fight = girl. If Shelley was 6"0 200 lbs Chara would stand all day and fight because he is a coward.

Posted by Xeshybrid on December 17, 2011 at 05:11 PM

Shelley with the win becasue Chara was too much of a pussy to stand and throw, took him down first oppurtunity he got.

Posted by guas99 on December 27, 2011 at 03:26 AM

Draw. Shelley lands the best punch, a left.

Posted by flyerguy on December 18, 2011 at 08:27 AM

@ BidBagBruin, which is a laugh, Shelley landed the only punch you f'ing moron. Get a pair of glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by staceyb on December 17, 2011 at 05:35 PM

I thought Shelley got in the only solid punch to Chara's chops. The big plus was that it got Chara off the ice for five minutes--big deal, Chara was smoking the puck from the left point and the Flyers paid for it on the scoreboard.

Posted by no123one on December 29, 2011 at 11:42 PM

Very close, edge to Shelley

Posted by Moby911 on December 17, 2011 at 11:44 PM

The last punch ( the only one) of shelley hurt Chara. Just after that Chara went for the take down. WIN SHELLEY!!!

Posted by tonetone1 on December 18, 2011 at 12:49 AM

Shelley landed more, and Chara wrestled him down like a bish. Shelley FTW!!!!

Posted by hoeslapper17 on December 22, 2011 at 03:56 AM

Giving win to Shelley cause he actually fought the whole time... Chara fell on him... That''s not a win in my opinion.

chara did't even throw a punch

Posted by theSDauncey on December 17, 2011 at 04:38 PM

Can you seriously say chara won? Shelley got more punches in but as usual everyone just says chara win because he throws the opponent to the ground Win Shelley

Posted by Rbphoto1 on December 18, 2011 at 07:03 PM

You know, I am not a Chara fan i hate the guy. But my rating for Shelley winning has nothing to do with me hating Chara. I just think Shelley got in the better of the hits plus he got maybe 10 rabbit punches in also.

Posted by EDDUBBS on December 17, 2011 at 04:39 PM

I am giving the edge to Shelly for pushing the fight, landing and taking the shots. That ugly retarded lurch looking product of the nuclear wasteland showed fear in his eyes and pushed Shelly down to end the fight. Chara is a great fighter but he lacked the heart as the fight went on and Shelly was committed AND gave up over 6" in height and reach.

Posted by jnk07899 on December 17, 2011 at 07:04 PM

Why are people voting Chara the winner? Shelley is the winner by all means/ More landed, got Chara off the ice, and size disadvantage to do what he did. Good job Shelley.

Posted by cppalermo on December 20, 2011 at 04:38 PM

I actually gave this one to Shelly, It was super close but someone who stands up to the big goon is a winner in my book. The funny thing would have been if Shelly actually connected with a right...Chara is going down and not getting back up.

Posted by Oil Can Henry on December 17, 2011 at 10:18 PM

...no fight,...just, a lame take-down,....

Posted by Langway on December 21, 2011 at 02:39 PM

Not a good scrap but a spirited effort by Shelley to stay alive

Posted by CloweStaubi on December 17, 2011 at 04:45 PM

nothing really landed, maybe the last punch thrown by shelley to chara's jaw, but didnt seem to stun him one bit... anyways, gave it a draw and a 4

Posted by BigDaddy20 on December 17, 2011 at 07:56 PM

Draw with Chara winning the takedown! Nobody landed anything really other than some jabs. I see Bruins fans are starting to become just as annoying as Pens fans these days. Ha!

How did 19.9% of the viewers judge Shelley as the winner!!! Homers!!!

Posted by sjeffh on January 19, 2012 at 08:17 AM

This was not a bad fight, Chara having the obvious reach advantage and Shelley with the only punch that really landed. The only bad thing about it was that it was far too short.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 16, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Chara looks like a monkey humping a bowling ball. $hitty fighter.

Posted by Mounty in NC on March 28, 2015 at 06:06 PM

Chat a guy that the win but didn't really land anything. Overall a win for Philly getting Chara off the ice

Posted by muskokadangler on December 17, 2011 at 09:12 PM

Great Move by Shelley and Chara Is an APE.....And there aint an APE on this planet I would want to fight!!!! Now the fight....It was a square dance and NOT a single shot landed....Good thing too :) The Silverback takes it

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on December 17, 2011 at 05:57 PM

Chara bounced Shelley's face off his hand like a basketball, and rather easily won a fight in which the result surprised no one. And he got the Gordie Howe Hat-Trick too. To those who say Chara isn't a good fighter, you're just wrong. Nobody wants to fight him because they always lose, they can't get past the reach. Chara landed a few after the jersey jabs too, and Shelley taking him off the ice did nothing for his team. Anything Shelley may have "landed" did nothing. Chara won just like the Bruins.

Posted by chad420 on December 19, 2011 at 02:36 PM

Big Z with the win and a Gordy Howe hat trick....nice

Hey, we know Shelley fights a bunch, but if thing had gone longer he'd probably been hospitalized. The Big Z was landing at will and throwing Shelley around like a girl -- no one in the league can deal with Z's size strength and Bruin toughness.

Not much doing there. Exchange of jersey jabs. Chara with the win for landing a few more and the takedown.

looks to me like Shelley lands the only punch here and then Chara does his typical take-down win shelley
