Two old war horses go against each other and I call it a draw with maybe a slight edge to Thornton.

Posted by Joceron on January 23, 2012 at 02:12 PM

Both guys coming off decent bouts the game prior, def not much in the way of landing punches here, draw and a 5

Posted by kj da dj on January 22, 2012 at 05:00 PM

decent scrap. Shelly needs to calll it a day.

Posted by wireknob on January 23, 2012 at 04:17 AM

Both put in a spirited effort but not much landed. Draw. Can someone please get the Bruins announcers some glasses with the correct prescription?

Posted by GO16 on January 23, 2012 at 10:35 AM

Pretty decent fight but I don't know who Thornton thinks he is with those boxing moves he was trying to show !! If he got in the ring with a real boxer he'd have his ass kicked in the first round !!

Posted by scorp1on on January 23, 2012 at 12:52 PM

Draw. Nobody first quarter, Shelly second quarter, Thornton third quarter, Shelly slips into vulnerable and they lock up and call it a fight.

Posted by fernben8 on January 22, 2012 at 11:14 PM

Not many punches landing cleanly (perhaps one left by Thornton). Overall, I see a Draw between two good lads earning their paychecks.

Posted by mudman55 on January 23, 2012 at 08:55 AM

I'm going with Draw on this one. Both guys showing their flexibility and adaptability. I like watching the old-time tough guys going at it.

Posted by hlaverty06 on January 23, 2012 at 04:23 PM

How did Thorton win this!! ? BS its a good draw

Posted by DARCY T on January 25, 2012 at 05:41 PM

tough call.i cant decide between edge thornton or draw but it was a very good fight by both guys so it wouldnt be fair to call it either way...draw and 7

Posted by srehm1 on January 23, 2012 at 05:06 PM

Good close fight. Thornton with the sneaky little crossover to his left early in the fight.

Posted by sedinfan on January 22, 2012 at 06:32 PM

Great fight boys, this is almost as good as Bruins/Canucks.

Posted by GreatMurray on January 23, 2012 at 07:58 AM

Good fight! Both guys threw hard. Each landed one good one. Misses don't count...so Thornton can't win. Good Draw...two real warriors! Sestitio's hit was clean...do not skate across the middle with your head down! Just because the guy had a concussion doesn't mean he gets the Quarterbacks ''yellow practice" jersey. These guys need to make their necks a lot stronger and they need to PAY ATTENTION!!!

Posted by lbx28 on January 22, 2012 at 08:07 PM

draw more or less.custombreaks, you are consistent,I will give you that. Its great that we all can express our views, thats what makes this place the best.

Posted by slavv on January 23, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Spirited and even bout. Each threw a lot and landed landed a few....

Posted by NAILS13 on January 22, 2012 at 05:01 PM

Love that Thornton's switch-hitting more lately. Must have read Boogaard's notes about the southpaw intimidation factor. Shelley lands some bombs though.

Posted by EDDUBBS on January 24, 2012 at 03:24 AM

This leprechaun Thornton is a real piece of work. Edge to Shelley and soon the bruins, who have a ton of cheap shot artists in their lineup, will fade into obscurity.

Posted by Behn Wilson on January 22, 2012 at 09:52 PM

There, I'm finally caught up... Man, you turn your back for one minute... and all hell breaks loose. Here, we find Thornton, bouncing around like ''Janssen Rubble'', trying, unsuccessfully, to surprise Shelley by going ''lefty'' early, Luckily for him, Shelley couldn't even muster a decent grip, much less a sustained attack, as the Bruin, eventually, took it home on points. LOL Horton on Sestito, and how about that Kyle ''Friggin'' Neuber? Leaf Nation...WTF does this guy have to do to get your attention?

Posted by siouxfan1 on January 22, 2012 at 07:11 PM

Thornton with the W!! Good fight!!

Posted by PeterMac on January 23, 2012 at 08:15 AM

Close fight...gotta love Thorton for continually taking on guys much bigger than him, and fairing well!!!!!!

Posted by beretta804 on January 22, 2012 at 05:21 PM

Not a fair fight if you leave your mask on.

Posted by Nos1226 on January 22, 2012 at 07:22 PM

Not a very good bout. Gotta give the edge to Thornton because he actually landed some punches. Shelley threw a lot of misses. Win Thornton.

Posted by BruinFightsFan on January 30, 2012 at 08:54 PM

ok fight

Posted by SouthPaw017 on January 24, 2012 at 02:58 AM

Slight edge to Thornton... I have to ask, how is it that anyone believes Thornton is a heavyweight???? He's 6'1", just over 200 lbs..... He is outsized in just about every fight and holds his own. Props to a guy who never says no and loves his job.

Posted by The DZA on January 23, 2012 at 07:34 AM

It was definitely a great game in Philly. All that was missing were appearances by The Hammer and The Tazmanian Devil.

Posted by Dammit-Man on January 22, 2012 at 09:29 PM

Good tilt by 2 Heavies, Shelley had a good start but Thornton Finished it Off

Posted by Killer Bezz on January 23, 2012 at 06:03 PM

We won't go down. Who's next. Put em up or shut up.

Posted by homeland on January 23, 2012 at 09:14 AM

Nice win for Thornton who controlled the action

Posted by buffalosam483 on January 24, 2012 at 05:59 PM

very good fight i wish my sabres knew how to fight

Posted by BludyNucks on January 22, 2012 at 07:21 PM

I can't believe Shelley is still pulling an NHL paycheck, he's worthless. Win ST.

Posted by Mark1967 on January 24, 2012 at 10:39 PM

Thornton landed better and more punches. Win to Thornton.

Posted by Bruins29 on January 22, 2012 at 09:40 PM

Thornton with the clear win over Shelley

Posted by shrk33 on January 27, 2012 at 07:39 PM

Pretty good bout. I think Thornton gets a slight edge.

Posted by Wensinkfan on January 23, 2012 at 01:54 AM

Good win for Thornton in a close one. Love the back and forth with minimal jersey grabbing.

Posted by Jellyczar on January 22, 2012 at 05:37 PM

Thornton starting with lefts beats Shelley who may be destined for the AHL soon....

Posted by DuckHawk on January 22, 2012 at 05:50 PM

Two of the best going here. I like Thorntons aggressivness in this one, wich for me is enough for the win.....could argue draw.

Posted by pmarz1 on January 22, 2012 at 06:26 PM

The fact that Shelley tries to push Thornton over the boards says it all, he'd had enough.....

Posted by tattooedkingpin on January 25, 2012 at 01:20 PM

good fight. edge Thornton

Posted by bruins rule on January 22, 2012 at 06:25 PM

thornton gets the win in this fight.

Thornton with the win. Good scrap.

Shelley does well, but is mostly overwhelmed.

Posted by mmadced on January 22, 2012 at 08:46 PM

shelly eats more as thorton lands more in a good scap customb-your jealousy act is getting old and your logic bizarre.dude, you should'nt have dropped out of school,it shows

Good heavey weight battle. Slight edge to Thornton. Landed better punches.

Posted by HchVegasNHL57 on January 22, 2012 at 07:35 PM

ST more active and landed cleaner. Edge Thornton. Good tilt.

Posted by Canner on January 22, 2012 at 06:59 PM

Thorny had the rhythm throughout, better shots too.... Nice job ST !! That big drunken doryman's time in the show is limited...

Posted by bruins34 on January 22, 2012 at 08:15 PM

I dont think Thornton hits as hard as Shelley, but landed more in this one, so he gets a slight edge in the decision. Great fight though. Maybe it's me, but Shelley seems to have gotten old really quickly in the last couple of years. Tough tough way to make a living.

Posted by FightsOfHockey on January 22, 2012 at 09:52 PM

Good fight edge to thornton

Posted by Hatebgred on January 22, 2012 at 06:30 PM

seemed like thornton handled shelley to me as shelley was confused by the awkward jersey grab and swung wildly

Posted by dontpokeTheBear on January 22, 2012 at 11:46 PM

Win Thornton

Posted by THE LAWNMOWER on January 23, 2012 at 06:37 AM

Gotta give the edge to the more aggresive Thornton. He's really upped his game since he was schooled by Ottawa's big Matt Carkner last year.

Posted by twister47 on January 24, 2012 at 07:24 AM

Win Thorton, Good fight. wish thorton could have got loose.

Posted by Jaxman2002 on January 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Good fight- not sure what Thornton was trying to do with the lefty lead in. He took a nice right hand while trying to establish the left. He bailed on it halfway through and won with the right hand.

Posted by 777Big on January 23, 2012 at 08:24 PM

Vancouver and Montreal will suck more Bruin di*k again this year. C'mon Canuckbreaks .......let hear you cry as you swallow.

Posted by red013 on January 24, 2012 at 11:45 PM

I don't see how you could vote for Thornton. I see it as a draw; and if there is an edge, I give it to Shelley. He controlled the action. Thornton was the aggressor; but that's all you can give him. Too many punches landed far short of the target. I don't understand the lopsided advantage in voted other than a lot of Bruin fans voting. Shelley by an edge for standing tall and firing down the barrel at a busy target!

Posted by Mayhem2011 on January 24, 2012 at 03:20 AM

Slight edge her to Shelly. Thornton over rated

Posted by Custombreaks on January 22, 2012 at 06:39 PM

Shelley beats the BeanyTown genius "i'm a man". Those roids probably made "i'm a man" act like a Mexican Jumping Bean. BeanyTown lost dirty Ference, but got their all time favourite playoff ref O'Halloran to baby sit them to victory again. Its a crying shame the 2011 tainted Cup winners can't hide behind Quirky Campbell skirt the way they have since Chippy join their squad.

Posted by RileyWolf on January 22, 2012 at 05:38 PM

Shelley edges out Thornton for the win. Close bout.

Posted by tim13 on January 22, 2012 at 06:34 PM

Draw or an edge to Shelley for that spurt from :20-:25

Posted by peteybrown on January 24, 2012 at 05:24 PM

God, the Bruin homers have really taken over this place. Edge to Shelly.

Posted by plubber on January 23, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Still haven't seen Thornton win a fight.

Posted by kinga101 on January 22, 2012 at 07:20 PM

I watched this clip several times and I still don't see where all the Thornton votes are coming from. It was a close fight, but Shelley with the definite edge with the better shots landed. He knocked Thornton to his knees then knocked his helmet off while Thornton didn't land much of anything. I guess the Bruin ballot stuffers are coming out of the woodwork.

Posted by Blackbeard101 on January 22, 2012 at 09:28 PM

Good fight, but again Shelley seems to have Thornton's number as he landed the bigger punches. Thornton is 0 for 2 in fights this weekend.

Posted by tcplee on January 23, 2012 at 01:25 PM

close, but Shelly got the upper hand.

Posted by Jesticle on January 23, 2012 at 08:05 PM

Lots of Boston homers on here, obviously. Shelley punches so hard and so fast, Thornton is lucky none of them really connected. Thornton's punches have zero effect on big Jody, so Jody wins to counteract all the Homer votes in an obvious draw. Stop being so homerish. I'm not a fan of Boston, or Philly. Just a fan of good time hockey :-)

Posted by ferdip on February 01, 2012 at 07:13 PM

good going

Posted by Stevens Lindros on January 22, 2012 at 05:01 PM

Keep fighting Shelley!

Posted by tkidu on January 22, 2012 at 05:40 PM

Seriously? Shelley wins this one for sure. Not sure what you homers are looking at.

Posted by muskokadangler on January 22, 2012 at 11:31 PM

For all the people calling for Sheeley"s retirement it would seem to me that he redeemed himself in very short order now didnt he....That is not to say he won but he sure did quite alright squaring off against one of the best IMO Again Thornton shows that he is Just Physically stronger than most of the Dude's he's fighting...Pretty good and close fight !!!!!

Posted by FHgrad99 on January 22, 2012 at 06:42 PM

This was a pretty good scrap. I had to call this one a draw. Both guys landed some quality shots. I felt like Shelley was the stronger of the two but he wasn't able to get a clear advantage over Thornton. I don't think Thornton had a clear advantage either. I'll give it a draw and a 7.

Posted by 25Pens45 on January 22, 2012 at 07:21 PM

"Over and under, under and over." Man does this announcer get on my nerves.

Posted by john-ny on January 22, 2012 at 05:37 PM

Thorton may have won the fight, but the Flyers get Thorton off the ice for 5 minutes. Thorton started with Rupp on Saturday and the Bruins scored shortly after that in a very tight game. I thought Shelly did ok considering he's well past his prime and he fought a real tough guy.

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on January 22, 2012 at 06:51 PM

Win to Thornton here, wish he could have done more to that weasel Hartnell, who wanted nothing of Thornton after the headshot he put on Kelly, and immediately planked on the ice.

Posted by AbuNidal on January 25, 2012 at 09:14 AM

Shelley should just go the way of the Dodo... obviously has outlived his usefulness on the planet. One dimensional "deterrents" who get beat up, by a tougher more all around player, should be waived like the rest of them.

Posted by brokenhead on January 23, 2012 at 12:04 AM

Thornton gets the win here.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 04, 2015 at 01:49 AM

Thorny was very aggressive n this one

Posted by chad420 on January 23, 2012 at 11:46 AM

win Shawnee T

Posted by travist on January 22, 2012 at 06:50 PM

nice fight, draw, but thorny may have landed the better of the punches. and watch out, custombreaks had his pacifier taken away too early today...

Posted by jtl6713 on January 24, 2012 at 08:49 AM

Nice with both hands.... Hate Thorton, but nice win

Posted by maineman on January 29, 2012 at 10:16 AM

Good tilt, Thorty with a slight edge but two of the best going toe to toe.

Posted by kkdowning on January 23, 2012 at 12:33 PM

FrankenShelley had trouble figuring out what to do with the grip and lefty style of Thornton -- Thornton with the edge

Posted by mike hartman on January 24, 2012 at 11:22 AM

gotta give that a draw.
