Virtanen shouldnt be wasting his time with this spaz. Farnham is like a miniature Joel Rechlicz. Zero skill, no brain, fast fists.
Goooooooood morn-ing Viet-nam...i mean Virtanen. Anyhow, Farnham with the win.
Picking on a kid...shame, shame!!
love the way the canucks men fell down at the end after that no punch, perhaps the wind blew him over :o win farnham in a skoolboy scrap
I was at this game and Farnham didn't go down from a punch, he lost his footing during one of the half dozen rapid fire rights he was delivering to Virtanen's face and helmet. I'd like to see you guys throw one good punch on ice skates and see how well you stay on your feet. As for the whole idea that poor little Jake was getting picked on by big ol'bully Bobby, cry me a river. Last time I checked this was the NHL where fighting is part of the game and sacrificing some skilled players for tough guys is a TACTICAL call; it was probably a bad idea to play as aggressively as the Canucks did if they didn't have the knuckles to back it up. But hey, if you still don't like it I heard that watching lifetime with a big glass of cranberry juice might help you feel better...
Virtanen lands one punch farnham goes down try the ECHL farnham
Virtanen knocks Farnham and bailey down with the only punch he threw... Win for the 19 year old kid against a 26 year old "tough guy" in his physical prime. If I were Farmhands teammate, I would've kicked his ass for celebrating his loss against a teenager.
I don't know what if anything Virtanen did to deserve that. But I also don't see how even Nuck fans can call that a win for JV. He got thumped. He'll probably play more games in the NHL than Farnham though.
ok
edge to Farnham... but the stuff after is immature.. take on a young skill guy that doesnt fight (or hardly)... then celebrate like he beat up john scott...
Lots of punches thrown by Farnham but most if not all caught visor/helmet with no damage done except to perhaps his hand.
Farnham was the pitcher and Virtanen the back catcher in this one for sure!
Edge Farnham.
19 years old virtanen got his 1st nhl fight...it's unusual to see farnhme hitting opponents head almost at will.he landed 3-4 for solid rights before he fell down.he tried to got back up but linesmen were to eager to break it up...win farnham
I guess Booby had to win one eventually.
Being called a "a miniature Joel Rechlicz" (as Kevinstevens does -- nice reference by the way!) is actually a compliment that I don't think Bobby Farnham deserves. Although Farnham beat up a young a "skill" player here.
Virtanen needs to stick with what he does best...hit hard, make plays, and score. Stay outta the ring kid!
that kid with the 'V' name should never fight again so we don't have to try & spell or pronounce his name properly since it's basically impossible.. .50 cents on the dollar for Farnham as the 'Flying V' can't keep up with the exchange rate... #23 FTW
I've always thought of "Fun Bobby" as something out of Slap Shot. But, sadly, that's going to be the new trend for so called "enforcers" in the NHL...these smaller, chirpy, chippy, annoying, agitator types like Farmhand, Dorsett, Roussel, Clune, Rinaldo, Prust, etc. You have to be able to skate in the new NHL, and also, the real behemoths are almost all out of the league now, so there's no one left above them in the food chain to beat them up, or shut them up. So they roam the earth without fear. On a separate note, Virtanen is basically Trevor Linden 2.0. Big, power forward, hits hard and hits often, but is not a fighter, does not want to fight, and if forced to drop the mitts, basically fights like girl. A butchy girl maybe, but a girl nonetheless.
Haha I always forget how many canucks haters there are on here that don't know sh*t about fighting. Farnham fights a kid 8 years younger than him, lands a couple shots to top of the helmet and visor, then gets dropped with a clean shot, ends up on the bottom, then he proceeds to jump up and celebrate like he's friggin Mike Tyson winning the title lol what a total loser. And of course he does all this with Vancouvers tough guys out of the lineup. Good job Virtanen for smokin this loser and standing up for yourself. Edge Virtanen
Miss the fiery Farnham in the Burgh. Just a little example of what he brings to the NJ table. Virtanen was beat up and down the street and a WIN to the fireball.
I like the attitude Farnham brings to the rink. I don't care if he beat up a skill guy. At least he's fighting.
I cannot stand Farnham and so glad my Pens got rid of him....but he did win the fight. He landed a lot more and was more active.
Virtanen hits Farnham with a hard right that sends him to the ice. Good for him to get back up from it. Good showing by JV in his first ever NHL fight. Win - Virtanen
back to the farm for bobby
Farnham gets dropped AGAIN. He's on his back more then a porn star
Bobby is a joke. Picks a fight with a 19 year old non fighter, then celebrates like he did something great. He will be back in the 'A' before long. When he's out of the league, which will be soon, maybe Jake can give him a job washing his cars.
Farnham wins the fight.. Sensitive comment section tonight..
Short but spirited...by Farnham...Virtanen was a no-show...probably being fitted for a dress. It really is hockey 101...if you want to earn your place on the team hitting your opponents (a good thing); tough guys from the other side are going to call you out (another good thing). If you want respect you better man-up and throw'em (also a good thing). Virtanen would have turtled if he could have....NOT A GOOD THING!!! Count Virtanen (drop the O in Count) was having brunch with Bruce Jenner's agent in the morning.
Well said article by Color commentator John Garrett , a good read - I played hockey professionally for 15 years in every league imaginable. It was a different time and a different era, but the basic codes remained the same. I lived the movie Slapshot. Jack, Jeff and Steve Carlson a.k.a. The Hanson Brothers, were my teammates with the Minnesota Fighting Saints. Also on that team was Gordie Machine Gun Gallant and Billie Goldthorpe. In Birmingham with the Bulls we had Gilles Bad News Bilodeau, Dave Killer Hanson and Frank Never Beaton. The game was different then. The Broad Street Bullies were winning Stanley Cups in Philadelphia with their swarming intimidating style and everyone thought they could do the same. There was no third man in rule and line brawls were a common thing. The Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers won 14 of the next 15 Stanley Cups and did so with a combination of great skill and toughness. Would the Canadiens have been the same team without Pierre Bouchard or the Islanders without Garry Howatt and Bob Nystrom or the Oilers without Dave Semenko? The game has evolved and yet every team has to have some toughness. They have to have the guys who are hard to play against. They have to have the guys who can right a wrong or anarchy would reign supreme. I remember one game when I was with the Canucks, Mark Messier clubbed Thomas Gradin over the head with his stick. Next shift Ron Delorme was on the ice to seek justice. It is justice for your teammates and justice for the game. It is not to sell tickets or sell individual players or to put on a sideshow. Fighting is an integral part of the game and should be handled as such. The Canucks played the Devils on Sunday and Bobby Farnham went after the Canucks Jake Virtanen. I have no problem with that as Virtanen plays an aggressive style and always takes the body. He is big enough at 215 pounds and will learn to handle himself. It was Farnham’s antics after that got me so riled up. Here is a guy that went to an Ivy League school for four years and never got drafted. He signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent and played for the Devils coach John Hynes for three years in the American League. In those three years he played 191 games and piled up 666 penalty minutes, while scoring 17 goals and getting 22 assists. He is 26-years-old and knows his role, but does not know how to act. Brandon Prust hit the nail on the head with his tweet after the incident. “Wow Bobby Farnham ur so tough acting like that after fighting a 19 year old. Go back to the A.” If you missed it, after the fight Bobby Farnham did half a lap and was waving at the crowd and pounding his chest. It was all about him. He wanted to be the show and the center of attention. The league has a rule about inciting an opponent, but it only calls for a 10-minute misconduct and is never called. Farnham is old enough to know better. He showed no respect for the player he was fighting or for their team. What goes around comes around and justice will prevail.
bobby
Regardless of how the fight started or what happened after, both dropped the gloves and agreed to go, and Farnham landed more punches.
"Farmhand" is to Tootoo what Dorsett is to Prust A very poor man's redundancy But I guess using your cement head to break other people's hands is a strategy... of sorts
Bobby has been fun to watch since becoming a Devil. He brings energy and takes some pressure of tootoo not that it stopped him throwing a few just before this scrap. Overall, Farnham landed a couple good shots and it looks like the last one gave Virtanen spaghetti legs, which i originally thought was the Ref's doing. First good scrap for the devils this year!
Farnham beats up a non-fighter. I'm not impressed.
We continue to have tools on this site COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FEW REMAINING fighters in the league. This is a HOCKEY FIGHT site. Why are people beaching about Farnham. Vancouver should think of dressing enough tough guys to match NJ instead of just Dorsett.
