Blah, dissapointing for heavyweights

Draw, or win for Sutton based on the fact he had better positioning. But he didn't "punch his helmet off" he pulled it off, they way some people seem to see these fights is hilarious.

Despite a lack of big blows, I liked the fight. It was two guys who know that they're doing. Both tried throwing, landing a little, but both guys were effectively locked out by the other. Hockey fighting at its most technical. A draw

Spirited but a draw.

Posted by djaye on October 12, 2007 at 05:17 AM

Good showing by both players.

Not a great scrap, but OK. Sutton did a very good job, GO GO ANDY!! They didn't land really much of a clean punches. Their punches comes mostly shortly to the mark or grazes to other. A draw. Btw, i agree Headcharge as he said that the hockey fightning is mostly about technical.

Belaks a bitch.. but sutton didnt get anythign in either

Posted by BENNETTWOLF on October 12, 2007 at 04:21 PM

I say draw due to lack of damaging punches. Two tall guys locking each other out. I'd always been curious about Sutton's skill as a fighter after seeing him regularly as a Thrasher vs my squad. He did just fine vs a noted heavy in Belak. Good to see a huge guy show some nasty to go with his imposing size. Belak's obviously looked better............an upset here

Sutton should get some more practice in.

edge to sutton

Not for nothing who wrote the Comments part "Sutton with a flurry of six straight rights to the head and body" In which fight was that, certainly not the one they just had. Sutton sucks and Belak is terrible

Posted by KindofBlueline on October 12, 2007 at 10:26 AM

Good fight in terms of how each player approached it. The only place it really fell short was the fact that Wade Belak just can't seem to connect when he swings his arms. Sutton clearly gets the win on tthe basis that he actually punched Belak at some point during the fight, while Belak just kind of punched at air.

Posted by shane0mack on October 13, 2007 at 05:49 PM

barely give it to Sutton because he actually made contact (note the left jabs and the rights taking the helmet off belak) where as if belak made any contact with any of his punches, it was to the...arm? As an Islander fan, i've been wondering how decent a fighter Sutton actually was...not Eric Cairns (who would have loved to go after Belak i'm sure) but nice to see him at least hold is own.

Was that a heavyweight tilt??

Posted by trpaulson on October 13, 2007 at 03:52 PM

Sutton wins by a punch. Both these guys can do a hell of a lot better.

Posted by mvigs on October 12, 2007 at 06:13 PM

Belak never landed a single punch, and Sutton got in one or two good shots when he knocked Belak's helmet off. It looked like Belak was bleeding on the side of his head. Sutton is the obvious winner.

Posted by SCOTTSO on October 12, 2007 at 04:16 AM

whatever punches landed were suttons put a w in the win column for the isle

Posted by Starsdomination on October 13, 2007 at 11:56 AM

Belak sucks. Sutton won. leafs suck/

Posted by coffeetime99 on October 13, 2007 at 12:44 PM

belak is pretty crappy other than old man domi when was the last good fighter the leafs had?

Posted by bney7 on October 13, 2007 at 12:39 AM

Belak is becoming less and less impressive each fight . . . .

Posted by mikebflorida on October 12, 2007 at 11:44 AM

To much jersey holding for my taste. Sutton looked like he connected with a few and Belak looks like he missed every single punch. Win for Sutton. That business of holding the jersey and guys swinging and not connecting is really lame.

Posted by EDDUBBS on October 12, 2007 at 05:23 PM

Belak's a stone punk

Posted by pooleyacht on October 12, 2007 at 03:35 PM

Nice little scrap by some heavies giving the edge to Sutton for the left hand rabbit taps and a couple good rights.

Posted by DetroitIan on October 12, 2007 at 04:49 PM

Not one of Belak's punches landed. Sutton landed maybe one or two shots. Decent scrap. Sutton gets the edge here.

Posted by islandersfan39 on February 20, 2008 at 01:01 PM

sutton and belak everyone knows belak is tougher but the way sutton held himself and landed 2 or 3 good ones i gotta give it to him

Posted by cabsf15e on October 12, 2007 at 02:31 AM

Not a bad fight between two big boys! I have to give the edge to Sutton becasue he tagged Belak a couple of times and it didn't appear as if Sutton got hit with anything significant.

Posted by grimson on October 12, 2007 at 10:06 AM

Seeing as I live in Toronto (Originaly from good ol Tennessee) i like the "Buds". Good toss overall. Little bit of an edge to Belak. ;)

This was a DRAW. Neither guy did any damage at all. Not too many punches were landed by either guy. After the fight Belak continued to bodycheck Sutton hard into the boards every chance he got. This was Belak's first fight since last year. Belak will be better in future fights, but give Sutton credit. He's got great reach, he's bigger than Belak, and he kept Belak from landing any big shots.
