Good Fight! Nash with the Gordie How trick and faired quite well with the tough heavyweight. Vandermeer landed often and Nash wouldnt quit. JV decision

Posted by Fanpuck33 on November 16, 2007 at 04:33 PM

Nash held his own against a guy with much more experience with the gloves off. Vandermeer the best shots in early, but Nash recovered well towards the end and landed a couple decent shots of his own. Here's to Nash's Gordie Howe hat trick!

I honestly think nash had the fight. the best punch was indeed thrown by vandermeer, but nash stood his ground and went to the end.. never seen that coming,, props to nash.. especially going with a somewhat of a experienced guy..but vandermeer did get knocked out by boogaard !! big DRAW

Posted by chris_mcallister on November 18, 2007 at 12:11 PM

another draw.

Nash was better in this fight(he isn't a heavy even if he is a heavy with his size). Vandermeer fought ok, but in a way a lose to him, because i think he would shoult to take a narrow win at least. Because Nash fights seldom. Hopely he fights more in the future. A draw to me.

Great scrap. Vandermeer might be the most underrated fighter in the league. He can go with just about anyone and hold is own. He dominates middleweights. Nash did a great job here. He ought to do this more often. Draw.

Nice scrap

Vandermeer landed more. Nash is a dirty player who hides behind his faceshield. Nice to see him get his face mussed up.

Posted by buddha on November 17, 2007 at 06:50 AM

Good scrap. Vandermeer won, but Nash showed heart and landed a few of his own.

Posted by Bagratid on November 16, 2007 at 08:26 PM

I don't know if I'm missing something but it looked like Nash actually started that one. Vandermeer backed into him and then Nash started shoving his gloves in Vandermeer's face. Vandermeer won that fight hands down. Kudos to Nash for taking on a tough guy like Vandermeer (who isn't a goon or a fighter just for the record, he's a tough defencemen who has 5 points in 15 games and plays over 20 minutes a night, thats more than most goons get in a season).

Posted by nsh03 on November 19, 2007 at 12:14 PM

The only reason Nash withstood Vandy's initial flurry of punches was the helmet/visor. I'm not saying he should have taken it off pre-fight as it was a heat of the moment thing, but that is what enabled him to hang in there and have a decent showing against a much better fighter.

Posted by rocket on November 17, 2007 at 12:30 PM

Edge Vandy, but nice showing by Nash. Vandy smiles too much during fights - looks like an ass when he starts getting popped by a non-fighter.

Posted by Formerref on November 18, 2007 at 10:34 AM

I'll give Vandermeer the win but OMG!! Imagine if Nash started to fight?!?! He more than put up a great fight and he is a goal scorer. A Gordie Howe hat trick !!

Posted by hoorock on November 19, 2007 at 10:06 PM

Nash totally starts it and then proceeds to eat some serious shots from Jimmy Vandermeer. The best part is that JV is smiling while he's pummeling Nash. Jim Vandermeer for the easy win, especially since Nash asked to stop near the end.

Posted by Sasky001 on November 18, 2007 at 10:58 AM

Vandermeer won this fight because he is a professional fighter. Good to see Nash stand up for himself and hold his nown. Enough with the visor comments. Why would Nash drop the lid against Vandermeer? Nash scores more goals in a season than JV will in his entire career. The code doesn't apply to guys who are in the league because they can actually play hockey. If you don't want to fight a guy with a visor don't take liberties.

Posted by cmzak91 on November 17, 2007 at 10:42 AM

Vandermeer kills him Nash-"ok stop stop stop"

Posted by Frostybubbler on November 17, 2007 at 03:23 PM

I Tivo'd it a couple of times and I swear it looks like Nash said "I'm done, I'm done!" before the linesmen jumped in and broke them up. It looks to me like a nasty little rivalry is starting to brew between the Hawks and Jackets. Stay tuned!

Posted by mike evans on November 17, 2007 at 05:23 PM

nash was calling for the refs to step in. nash tried to punk vandermeer and got punked himself. nash is lucky the refs stayed close to him because he was gonna be dropped by vandy had the fight lasted longer. if you're gonna be a tough guy, take off the shield. nash is a pussy.

Posted by DetroitIan on November 17, 2007 at 08:29 PM

Gotta applaud Nash right there. The kids got alot of heart. But Vandermeer gets the win in this bout. Although, Nash definitey landed some decent shots. Just not as many as Vandermeer landed. And it definitey pissed me off to have to look at Ken Hitchcock for like 10 seconds while the fight was going. Who knows what might have happend during that time.

Posted by The_Rickster on March 23, 2008 at 07:55 PM

Marginal defenceman gets the better of a star player but full marks for Nash to hang in there.

Posted by rwargo24 on November 22, 2007 at 12:05 PM

Vandermeer always smiles when he fights. You gotta love how much he enjoys scrappin'. I give it to Vandy. He landed better and more often. Nash sissied out behind the visor until Jim took it off him. If the refs hadn't stepped in, Vandermeer would've destroyed him. And Nash visibly started it if you watch closely, so don't give me that "goal scorer shouldn't take off the visor" crap.

Posted by IMTank on January 23, 2008 at 12:47 AM

Vandermeer had the early advantage. Nash more than showed up later in the bout- not bad for a goal scorer. Nice Gordie Howe Hat Trick!

Posted by NoKnuckles on November 16, 2007 at 05:37 PM

Call it a draw because Nash evens it up with pure heart in taking on a fighter and not backing down. Skilled player vs fighter.

Posted by Krahn on November 17, 2007 at 02:16 PM

Props to nash for fighting a fighter, dont see stars fight tough guys, and he held his own, DRAW

Posted by Spaz on November 17, 2007 at 09:04 AM

Gotta love Vandermeer smiling at him during the fight. He never got much of a shot to show he could play in Philly. Glad to see he's made a solid roster spot in the NHL.

Posted by Blackhawk16 on November 19, 2007 at 10:38 AM

There's a reason JV doesn't drop them often....nobody wants to fight him...did you see him smile when Nash hit him with his best shot?

Posted by tucker9 on January 20, 2008 at 05:10 PM

nash threw a lot of punches, i would have to say nash won the fight

Posted by kitcarnut on November 20, 2007 at 09:53 PM

I give the edge to nash just for having the balls to show up. vandy shoulda killed him.Can you imagine if Nash played super hard and developed a nasty streak?

Posted by no123one on January 23, 2010 at 08:56 AM

DOMINATION NASH! Vandermeer just held on for the ride and got pummeled! SWEET!

Posted by dbbourn on November 18, 2007 at 03:56 PM

Surprising performance by Nash. If he didn't have his visor on Vandermeer would have crushed him early. Some nice shots near the end by Nash, which I think gives him the edge in this fight. 9 times out of 10 Vandermeer wins this, but not this time. My vote: Nash.

Posted by bobcat110 on November 16, 2007 at 09:17 AM

Got the crowd excited to see the Franchise player going up against the opponent's goon and winning. I think regardless if I guy wears a visor, he should have a right to protect himself. The Hawks had an empty net and Nash could have been trying to shoot at it to pad his stats for another Rocket trophy. Instead, he's trying to run the clock off when Vandermeer comes over throwing elbows and crosschecks. But you're right, the CBJ can even it up...let's let Kane wear a visor when he fights Shelley.

Good fight especially for a Rocket Richard winner. The Nasher is tough.

Posted by bostonrs555 on November 17, 2007 at 03:21 PM

Vandermeer, get out of the league while you still have a shred of integrity!!!!!! Vandermeer HAD to be at the end of a 14 minute shift!!! it's the only answer for Nash hanging in for as long as he did.

Posted by CZuke39 on November 16, 2007 at 10:27 AM

Vandermeer won this fight and landed a few hard punches inlcuding one at the end that almost collapsed Nash. Nash kept asking Vandy something along the lines of "are you done" or "im done". After Vandermeer got in the last punch that really hurt Nash he turned to the linesmen for help. NHL has to implement an additional penalty for fighting with a visor.

Posted by plum29 on November 17, 2007 at 11:47 PM

got to go with Ricky Nash on this one. great scrap, he landed the bigger cleaner shots. Vand's shots landed when Nash had his visor on, so no damage.

Posted by Big Punisher on November 17, 2007 at 08:04 PM

Vandy seemed to be laughing at Nash as the fight went on, so obviously Nash throws pillows. On the other hand, Nash's face looked like smashed potatoes the next day, and it looked pretty clear he was begging for the refs to jump in. I guess we can scratch fighting off of Nash's abilities. Along with backchecking, passing, and performing in the playoffs.

Posted by Fourfeathers on November 16, 2007 at 08:13 PM

"But you're right, the CBJ can even it up...let's let Kane wear a visor when he fights Shelley. "- Are you seriously comparing Kane -160# 18 year old to Nash 6'4 205? And Vandermeer to Shelley? Completely different scenario. That is a complete joke. We have a monster on the hawks, name's Koci. Now, if Nash goes with Koci, I guess even though Kane gives up 35 pounds, we could START to compare the fights.
