I gotta agree with PADDYD. it wasn't the "bomb" everyone thinks it was. Draw, Roy with some passion and fearlessness.

Posted by mikebflorida on December 18, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Draw Roy loses balance and gets right back up. If that was a real Booger punch, he doesn't get right back up. Boogaard has yet to win a fight this year.

Posted by bruiser11 on December 18, 2008 at 12:42 PM

maybe the heavyweight champ of minnesota, but not the nhl...

Posted by Juha82 on December 18, 2008 at 04:35 AM

no good punches landed though. Roy landed more. Boogaard ended up better but doens't land good punch. a DRaw.

Posted by hal29 on October 18, 2009 at 04:00 PM

watch the fight again its a total draw.wow, roy wwas dominating the beginning then boogard threw a punch that barely landed if it did.roy went down from the weight and power of boogard not from the punch.he is heavy and strong so thats why i call it a draw, not much of a fight.since when has boogard become champ he hasn't had many fights.couple this year,to many people vote for boogard just because he is boogard.if he got his ass kicked i gaurantee you he still have won.the voting on here gets worse and worse and now its losing its point of voting.to may people are bias and think boogy is the best fighter to come to hockey but alot of his fights are boring...just my 2cents

Posted by preciselyfun on December 18, 2008 at 09:39 AM

I'll tell you why Boogaard is NOT the champ - because Godard tunes him EVERY time they scrap. There's your champ, clowns. Although he's not a great all around player Calgary should have kept him for goofs like Boogaard.

Posted by DetroitIan on December 19, 2008 at 06:33 AM

Roy started out pretty strong. But I had to go with Boogaard after that shot at the end.

Posted by Lucy Brown on December 18, 2008 at 02:13 PM

This site is going down hill with bogus reviews. How can you even be sure that Boogaards only punch wasnt a helmet shoot. Roy looked more off balance than anything after getting hit. Clean draw unless I see a better camera angle and see 100% that Boogaards punch was clean.

Posted by tiggs on December 19, 2008 at 10:06 PM

roy gets my vote for landing a few more punches and for taking on the bigger guy boogaard should of been able to land more then 1 bunch although it appeared devistating

Posted by BlackAce on December 17, 2008 at 11:51 PM

Heavyweight Champion my ass... punches landed were 12-1 Roy and Roy is a pussy

Posted by pgfrankl on December 18, 2008 at 12:07 AM

Roy tied up BOOsh**gard. While not many serious punches, I think Roy held his own against this distinguished fighter. Boogard throws down, but Roy has control.

Posted by Truk on September 19, 2009 at 05:36 PM

I watched this three times just to see the ref try and handle Boogie after. They grow them big in Saskabush but he's no champ.

Posted by Sportsdiamond on December 18, 2008 at 09:13 PM

1 Punch made Roy look like a dummy,

Posted by battleaxeisgay on December 18, 2008 at 01:54 PM

look like he slipped after the punch not to take anything away from derek i think that he would have finished him off if the refs would have let it go a little longer that slip might have saved his orbital bone

Posted by onyxdragon on January 13, 2009 at 11:31 PM

Boogaard definitely dominated the fight with his intimidating height and long arm reach...one punch and he took out Roy (similar to his one punch TKO against Todd Fedoruk)

Posted by paddyd on December 18, 2008 at 02:57 PM

I am a not a fan of either but in all fairness..... "KO", "Bomb", lets get serious the majority of you sound like a bunch of 6th graders at a school yard fight. ALl I saw was 1 punch land and that landed more on the top/ sideof Roys helmet and he bounced right back up. To many homers blindly vote on this site.

Posted by trpaulson on December 19, 2008 at 07:31 PM

Roy did his best. Booger got in that one big shot to win. Not much of a fight.

Posted by oilersfansylvan on December 18, 2008 at 01:20 AM

LOL exactly what I thought would happen

Posted by blackgoldfan on December 19, 2008 at 11:51 PM

boogaard heavy weight champ? uuuuuuum i don't know about that....but i do know it did only take one punch to beat up roy.

Posted by spur77 on December 18, 2008 at 04:55 PM

O.K. fight. Andre Roy isn't much of an apponent. Derek Boogaurd the heavy wieght Champ. I don't think so. Belt still belongs to Laraque

Posted by MajorGroove on December 26, 2008 at 08:08 PM

Not much of a fight, I guess Boogey gets the win.

Posted by jkluhr on December 18, 2008 at 09:39 AM

Boogard with the win no question, but good for Roy to go with him , he had the right idea comming out really active, but Boog landed a a good shot to end it. For all the MN fans saying calgary wished they had Boog, thats a joke the guy is a waste of space, had they had a decent player who can throw them, they may win some games instead 0 and 6. Way to go Wild (the most boring team in the game). Also Boogaard is behind a few guys for top heavy.(ie. Belak, Godard,)

Posted by BrianTheAdsFan on December 18, 2008 at 02:21 PM

Not sure about the heavyweight champion part by the announcer, but a one and done knockdown for the big fella. Win Boogaard

Posted by Medulaman683 on December 20, 2008 at 02:00 PM

only takes boogyman 1 good punch to knock this little roy bitch out... obvs boogaard wins

Posted by penman1188 on December 18, 2008 at 10:56 PM

what a crappy camera angle.. Boogey one shot that wanabe Boogs

Posted by kalismkkr on December 22, 2008 at 09:25 PM

If the Wild broadcasters were announcing this, you would have heard a bunch of sloppy meat slapping, moaning, and heavy breathing. Listen to them for a few games and you'll soon realize why there are so many blind homers. To me honest, Detroit and Florida are nearly as bad. Hate to admit it, but Canada has far better announcing in general...even if they had had the wrong call about Boogard as the champ. Boogaard with the clear win.

Posted by staceyb on December 18, 2008 at 06:12 AM

Boogaard is "the current heavyweight champion"--I don't think so. But he wins this one over Roy. Godard has won far more fights this year, so has Orr. You could make the case for a half dozen other enforcers for "current heavyweight champion."

Posted by wildonefan on December 19, 2008 at 07:04 PM

boogaard pulled the one hit wonder in this one.. and gets the win..

Posted by troyt on December 18, 2008 at 03:45 AM

A true wild fan here, Boogs with the win but not the champ. Top 1-5 yes but not the Champ. Too many good heavyweights to call one guy the champ. For the record thats not any of the Wilds announcers!

Posted by neiljc on December 18, 2008 at 10:15 AM

Boogaard with the big finishing punch here. It's key to remember that Andre Roy can make the likes of Stortini look like the heavyweight champion of the league. No disrespect to Boogaard, but if he were fighting Cote, Godard, Laraque, or even Mitch Fritz, I would be more impressed. Also, remember that WADE BELAK, for God's sake, has beaten him. Not that this is enforcer criteria, but he only fights and serves no other use. Godard and Laraque are actually more useful than you would expect when they don't fight. I need to see better fights against quality opponents and more health from him before I declare him better than even George Parros. Still very good though, just not quite top five caliber in my book.

Posted by Thunder Cat 2 on December 20, 2008 at 01:42 PM

i give roy some credit for going after boogaard. It only took one pinch from D.B and down goes roy. easy win for D.B

Posted by ruckusrider on December 18, 2008 at 09:27 PM

i just like how boogaard laughed on his way to the box.

Posted by redwings ko on December 18, 2008 at 02:47 PM

boogard looked like he was toying with roy until the end, then showed him how to land a punch. boogard wins with a "fist to face to ice" bomb.

Posted by flyguysarmy21 on December 18, 2008 at 03:17 PM

Man I wish the flyers had a legit tough guy like the boogey man

Posted by wannago on December 18, 2008 at 07:17 AM

1 punch TKO. Roy is horrible.

Posted by Big_Goon on December 18, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Clear win Boogie Man.

Posted by McDonald19 on December 18, 2008 at 10:08 PM

Laraque is the heavyweight champ. Stupid announcer. Anyway, win Boogaard. Credit to Roy for fighting him.

Posted by Riomouse911 on December 20, 2008 at 12:33 AM

Boobgaard wins that one. Maybe if he actually beat BGL he can be mentioned as the "champ." Seeing as he's a cheap-shot knee-to knee artist, I'd say "chump."

Posted by battags on December 18, 2008 at 07:38 PM

not much of a fight-typical of most fighters that go after Boogy- try and spin him around 'til he falls an act like you killed him. except sometimes he stays upright and lands one-down you go. Only a handful of guys will stand up and go toe to toe with Boogaard. Heavy weight champ-don't think so, don't see enough guys wanting to stand in there with him to prove it. Even Belak won't go toe-toe.

Posted by tyrone on December 18, 2008 at 10:39 AM

Juha82 needs to see an optomitrist. Booger clearly wins with a TKO that lifted Roy off his feet. Roy never hit him once. And no, Booger is not the champ, but clearly overpowers Roy.

Posted by OriginalSix on December 20, 2008 at 04:48 PM

TKO Win for the Boogeyman.

Posted by stizzo on December 18, 2008 at 11:53 AM

Boogard is a monster - he fights so professionally and hardly ever throws cheap shots at the end of scraps - 1 punch win

Posted by Jellyczar on December 18, 2008 at 03:59 PM

All Boogey...... Roy should be happy he didn't get his head taken clean off........

Posted by SabresFanatic on December 19, 2008 at 06:40 PM

Who are the idiots who think that Roy won that fight?

Posted by wildfan4eva on December 18, 2008 at 10:20 AM

To say Roy won this fight or at most landed a shot (which hit boogaards back every time) is just plain ridiculous!! Boogaard wins clearly..AND THOSE ANNOUNCERS WERE NOT FROM MINNESOTA....I WOULD KNOW I LIVE THEIR AND IT WASN'T TELEVISED ON TSN..IT NEVER IS IN MINNY..AND FOR YOU JKLUHR YOUR LOST BUDDY, BELAK BARELY ONE TWICE..AND GODARD WITH A LUCK WIN ONCE. NEITHER OF THESE GUYS HAS ACTUALLY KNOCKED BOOGAARD OUT....NOBODY HAS FOR THAT MATTER...BOOGAARD HAS MORE STRENGTH THAN BOTH GUYS COMBINED..IT'S HIS BALANCE THAT GIVES HIM THE LOSS ALL THE TIME..AND THOSE LOSSES ARE NOWHERE NEAR DOMINATIONS (EXCEPT THAT ONE GODARD FIGHT), BUT LIKE I SAID...THAT HAS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE IN DEREK'S FIGHTING CAREER

Posted by BattleAxe13 on December 18, 2008 at 09:50 PM

Yeah no way Boogaard is the heavyweight champ, but he does get the win in this fight.

Posted by jbaker3924 on December 18, 2008 at 09:10 AM

Win Boogaard.

Posted by BooSanta on December 23, 2008 at 08:31 PM

That knockout From Cote and boot off of TB last year seems to have shaken Roy. He definitely is having a rough go this year and throws the kitchen sink at Boogey from the get go but it's just never enough is it. Boogey has great balance and will eventually string up Roy for the clincher: the Boogey Booming Right and Roy crumbles on to the sheet. Not much of a knockout as Roy was ready to get up for more b4 the Zebs stop it.

Posted by peeks on December 18, 2008 at 09:15 AM

WTF?? Roy landed absolutely jack shzit. Boogaards final punch even hit the helmet on the losers head. I can't believe someone actually thinks that Roy landed even one shot that didn't hit boogys shoulder. The winner is Derek here, anyone that sais different is a complete hater!! JUST ADMIT IT ALREADY

Posted by MNBonecrusher on December 30, 2008 at 01:38 PM

Let's be objective here. As far as the fight goes, Roy got put on his ass by one shot to the helmet. He should feel VERY lucky that he didn't catch one to the face. Win for Boogaard. As far as the heavyweight champ goes, even being a Wild/Boogaard fan, I can't say that he is. He is DEFINITELY in the top five and anyone in this top five can take out anyone else in the top five, its all how the punches land.

Posted by tattooedkingpin on December 18, 2008 at 06:09 PM

Thundering hit by Boogard. W.

Posted by CairnsIsGod33 on December 18, 2008 at 04:32 AM

Roy was doing well until Boogaard threw a punch. WIN Boogeyman

Posted by Taubi on December 18, 2008 at 07:08 AM

Boogy win, but Boogey the Champ? Come on. ---------- Boogy the Champ? From the Stats and Careerstats (Fights) and Fights this Season (win, loses) and and and is Brash actually the Champ or still Georges, but not Boogaard. Boogy is great yes, but for me and other Guys here, is Boogey the Nr. 3, 4 or 5 in the Community Best Of (Top Ten - List).

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on December 18, 2008 at 12:23 AM

boogieman is KING! wow there are some stupid ass flames fans voting cause they wish the had boogey

Posted by burns08 on December 18, 2008 at 12:06 AM

I'm not sure who could possibly pick Roy. He got a few punches in, but the only one that counted was the one Boogaard used to knock Roy's ass out. Boogaard wins hands down.

Posted by probiehawk24 on December 17, 2008 at 11:22 PM

The smartest move Roy made in this fight was to get inside. His punches weren't even close. Pure size advantage for Boogey which is always the case. Derek lands a big one in the end but not a K.O. punch. Linesman jump in too quick thinking Roy got stung. He did, TKO Boogaard

Posted by MetalMitts on December 18, 2008 at 02:31 PM

Looked like a horny monkey trying to hump a tree. Once Boogey got separation Roy wanted no part of it. That's why he elected to pseudo turtle after a mediocre shot to his bucket. Kudos to Roy for even giving it a go I guess???

Posted by Clarky 33 CAN on January 01, 2009 at 01:13 PM

Probert style bout with DB waiting for the opportunity to land that one big shot...

Posted by The DZA on December 19, 2008 at 12:23 AM

Win Boogey, but what the hell is Chris Cuthbert sayin "current heavyweight champion"?!?!? Anyone who has 2 straight loses to Belak is no heavyweight champion.

Posted by Chaserfan39 on December 20, 2008 at 01:28 AM

Clear win for Boogaard

Posted by cambec on December 18, 2008 at 11:33 AM

Boogaard with the win. Roy was busy, but didn't hit him once. As for the punch thrown that put Roy on his butt....well that is what happens when your brain stops sending signals for a split second. Not enough for a KO, but it is getting your bell rung. Easy win for Boogaard.

Posted by roundhouse4u on December 18, 2008 at 11:35 AM

roy ran his mouth the whole game and he got knocked the #uck out. also. great LEGAL hit by boogy earlier in the game. win to boogy. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOGUAARD BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!! SUCK ONE HATERS and BLACKACE hole- 12- 1 punches. what. come on u fag. half his swings didnt even connect. get real you little puke I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT BOOGY LEADS THE TEAM IN PLUS -MINUS . Posted by scottythecynic on December 20, 2008 at 12:33 AM

Roy is no match for the "Wild" Boogaard. I have to give Roy credit for attacking like a Chiquaqua and keeping Boog from hammering him.

Posted by Haleskii on December 18, 2008 at 09:39 AM

Oh, and for those that are ripping on the announcers for calling Boogy the current Champ, those were the Flamers announcers, not the Wilds. Good try though.....

Posted by bruins rule on December 18, 2008 at 09:45 AM

decent fight between these 2 guys.

Posted by dlbishop2213 on December 26, 2008 at 03:33 AM

Roy is a big guy..I was expecting a lot from this fight. How can you call Boogie the champ when Goddard DESTROYED Boo... watch that fight and tell me he is a champ... everybody loses sometime... Boogie with the win in this one

Posted by mckendo83 on December 18, 2008 at 08:58 AM

Normally i'm a JUHA82 fan but wow are you blind buddy? knockdown win boogieman.

Posted by arko on December 18, 2008 at 02:41 PM

Classic Boogie Man. Roy should pick on someone in his weight class, but would most likely loose that one too.

Posted by R_Wick33 on December 18, 2008 at 01:27 PM

again mikebflorida with a pathetic call, when are u going to stop posting? KD win Boogaard

Posted by Shappa on December 18, 2008 at 02:10 AM

Everyone who is saying he's not the champ... If that is true, then who is? Not Fritz. Not Laraque. Not Brashear. Who else? Roy has no business fighting Boogaard. He gave it about the best effort someone like himself could, but he didn't land a decent shot, and ended up on his ass.

Posted by Pokeysaurus on December 18, 2008 at 01:24 PM

Nice effort by Roy. Your only hope against the Boogeyman is to do exactly what he did - rush him, get in close and start throwing like crazy. Too bad he couldnt avoid that lunchpail that looks like a right fist. Boogaard hit him in the helmet and still sent him flying.

Posted by pens08 on December 19, 2008 at 05:57 PM

clear win for boogard. why was roy fighting him? not a bright move. jansen the champ? lmao sure he is. laraque is still the champ.

Posted by GetUrWigSplit13 on December 18, 2008 at 11:11 AM

wow whoever voted this a draw or for roy is a major f**kin idiot!!!...boogaard leveled him with one punch and the fight was over..nuff said!

Posted by chad420 on December 20, 2008 at 05:51 PM

boogeyman drops em easy...but,heavywght champ?...cmon,i dont think so....do these announcers watch other games?....godard among others has smoked his ass...

Posted by MNwild8 on December 18, 2008 at 06:01 PM

The Wild's announcers on FSN, greenlay and terhard, are two of the biggest homers in broadcasting and they don't even refer to boogey as the "heavy-weight champion." He does have a clear win in this one though.

Posted by sabersfan4life on December 18, 2008 at 01:16 PM

the winner by ko and still champion Derek Boogaard .an one punch ko from the king of ko Boogaard easy win over Roy. What the hell was you thinking Roy bad iead by fighting Boogaard.

Posted by smasham on December 18, 2008 at 06:05 PM

Boogaard the current heavy weight champion? Goddard beat him twice last year. Fritz hasn't fought him yet and I'm sure Laraque has beaten him...

Posted by joeye4 on December 19, 2008 at 07:26 AM

Roy was game but this guy is out of his league.

Posted by Joeyxxx on December 18, 2008 at 10:33 AM

Knockdown win for Boogaard. Duh. Roy threw more and missed more. Also, haters on Boogaard who think Godard "tunes him up EVERY time" only need to look at Boogaards 3-1 NHL record against him and numerous times they have fought before that. Undisputed champ? Not a chance. Top 5 caliber? Absolutely. So if anyone wants to call anyone in the top 5 the champ,I am not gonna stop em. They don't exactly hand a real crown out to the guy on top you know. Plus, I see alot of people on here bringing up the scoreboard, what's the deal with that? I thought this was a hockey fight site, not GaryBettmanfanclub messageboards.

Posted by iammac23 on December 17, 2008 at 11:17 PM

wow, Roy was looking good, untill the one punch kockout. Boogaard still the man to beat. alot of power in his hands.

Posted by Wild33 on December 18, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Roy knew he had to get in quick and tie up Boogie, all it took was one shot. Easy fight to call.

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on January 14, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Roy didn't really have much a chance. Took only 1 KO blow from Boogaard. Who ever voted for Roy is a dumbass!

Classical Boogaard. ?Just adding on to his KO list. I'm pretty sure all the flames fan voted this as a draw or win for roy. A bunch of homers.

Posted by chrisinroch on December 19, 2008 at 05:18 PM

Boogaard hit him on top of his helmet as he was yanking roy off balance. It was not a KO but boogaard would have beaten roy anyway

Posted by claire alexande on December 18, 2008 at 01:28 AM

boogaard can't really fight--just relies on his huge reach to keep people at bay. all the same, in terms of $$ per minutes played, he's the tops in the league. draw against roy who is mediocre at best. who won the game, milders?

Posted by pynkfloid3 on December 18, 2008 at 01:23 PM

TERRIBLE FIGHT. the "knockdown" punch didnt even land.

Posted by DrBt on December 17, 2008 at 11:36 PM

im a flames fan, but i love watching boogey fight, i miss last season when Goddard actually gave him a run for his money and occasionally came out on top

Posted by A Fight Fan on December 18, 2008 at 12:16 AM

Boogaard wins no question. Boogaard the heavyweight champ, not a chance, Belak is having a way better year even though he is not fighting as much. Boogys swingin .500 (Belak is an example, there are lots of heavys better then Boogy atm).

Posted by marinermoose38 on December 18, 2008 at 02:08 PM

Boogaard pops him. After Bourque broke the streak of Flamer fight losses, A. Roy starts the streak once again by biting off more than he could chew in the Boogeyman.

Posted by wildguy12 on December 18, 2008 at 07:44 PM

Roy did not want to get back up regardless of wether that punch connected. Flames announcers are funny. Boogy dominated!

Posted by CAheavyweight on December 20, 2008 at 06:26 AM

with all due respect to shappa boogard will never be the champ... i mean come on he should destroy every guy he faces, he cant even knock brad may to the ground, BGL destroyed booger, brashear and laraque are 1-1, parros is very underrated and we will see how good fritz does and the list goes on and on... boogard is trash (cheap shots embarrass the game of hockey). and i dont know who the true champ is... to be honest i dont think there is one. but my favorite fighter is riley cote(brandon prust as well), he fears no one and that gives him respect, and that is what hockey fights are won and/or lost for... RESPECT!!!

Posted by tim daddy on December 18, 2008 at 09:58 AM

roy showed some smarts staying inside , and some guts, but then that sledgehammer fell, win boogard, p-fun ,godard has won exactly one fight clean since juniors against boogard ,that hardly constitutes tuning him up everytime

Posted by philabronc on December 19, 2008 at 11:58 PM

One shot is all Boogaard needed to put Roy on his butt. Win Boog

Posted by heyohmama on December 19, 2008 at 12:10 AM

boogaard with the win, but no way he is heavyweight champ laraque, brashear, fritz definitely all better fighters plus some more

Posted by Spaz on December 18, 2008 at 06:01 AM

Roy thinks he can handle Boogaard? These announcers think Boogaard is the current heavyweight champ? What a joke. Roy can't handle anyone and Boogaard is either hurt or losing to someone like Godard.

Posted by TBLightningGuru on January 19, 2009 at 03:28 PM

Roy had the right idea to lunge in close on Boogaard so he couldn't utilize the reach advantage.. however poor execution and an easy win for Boogaard

Posted by bloodchurn on December 18, 2008 at 02:19 AM

Boogaard wins but I dont understand why people are still calling him the champ

Posted by pensfane21 on December 20, 2008 at 07:10 PM

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 21, 2015 at 01:46 AM

Props to Roy for charging hard at Boogaard, but all it took was one punch and the Boogeyman sent him to the ice.

Cam "bam-bam Jansen is the champ!

Posted by BoogeyRocks on December 18, 2008 at 10:49 AM
