The Blues are pretty good at falling on people.

What a crap for the hit....looks identical to the one Shane Doan got suspended 3 games for. I bet he's gonna get reviewed for it

Posted by jvwood1 on November 05, 2010 at 09:56 AM

In the Day, star or not, Thornton would have to pay for that hit. Good job by Coture to step in, good job by Petro to step up...GREAT job by Perron to wake up from that one and get the ultimate revenge by scoring a goal. Crap fight, but I predict we have not seen the last of this situation. He'll get a few games in the press box and these teams will meet again.

Not much of a fight, gotta like it though when someone stands up for a teammate. I love how all you people get on here and say "old time hockey" this and that. You really sound stupid. You want to go back to wooden sticks, leather skates with a steel blade, no slapshots, no goal scoring, and no fans in the seats? The hit by Thorton was bad, period, and if he would have been thinking, he could have done some serious damage to Perron. If big Joe plants his shoulder in David's chest and follows through, Perron might still be on the ice.

I'll take this chance to say that the Thornton hit was not dirty, he didn't go after they guy . . . Skate with your head up dude! You ran right into Thornton! He didn't have to speed up or slow down, or even change the direction he was skating ! ! ! ! There should have been no penalty ! ! ! ! BS!

Posted by RoadRiverRail on November 04, 2010 at 10:53 PM

Lots of sweater pulling and barely connected oblique punches. It's hard to really even call it a fight.

Posted by sedinfan on November 04, 2010 at 11:19 PM

Wrestling match, with the new rules, Thornton should and will be suspended for sure. That was totally blindside to the head of an unsuspecting opponent or however the rules read. I like Joe, but he will be sitting out a few. The sneak attack from the penalty box was totally bush Joe.

Thortons hit gets more points than the bout!

Posted by keshtopher on November 06, 2010 at 07:02 PM

this fight was a draw its easy to take punches with a viser on but before all you assholes think that joe should be suspended go to youtube and look up this video ( NEW NHL RULE: Explaining illegal and legal Hits to the Head) this was put out by the NHL and look for willie mitchell hit on Toews it is the same hit that thorton did in this game and was used as a exsample of a legal hit in a video put out by the NHL so eat a dick all of you who call thorton a cheap shot

Posted by hoss75 on November 05, 2010 at 11:28 AM

I don't think you can award a fight to a guy that doesn't take his visor off. So I have to give it to Couture on a technicality.

Pietrangelo does enough to handle ''Haute'' Couture in a non-event. As for the hit...Thorton saw a gift horse coming his way, that was borderline legit, and in that split second, he decided to over-rule the ethics of the situation...and just go for it.. As FrankLexy said, Perron was playing the puck, and therefore, technically fair game...but Thornton's a character guy who probably knew that he'd crossed the line the minute the two made contact. those of us who play, or have played the game... are you telling me that you're sure you'd hold up on the follow through if you found yourself in a similar situation?

Posted by Riomouse911 on November 05, 2010 at 12:25 AM

How did that POS Joe "The annual playoff fail" Thornton not get the snot beat out of him for that dangerous hit? He'll sit 10 games I hope. 10-9 for AP.

alex wins reminded me when we used to make our younger brothers fight

Posted by tattooedkingpin on November 05, 2010 at 12:42 AM

weak fight. Edge Pietr

Posted by staceyb on November 05, 2010 at 03:45 PM

Lucky Couture gets to stick up for his team captain and gets throttled by a bigger foe. Joe Thornton ought to buy him a new car--he's got the dough.

Posted by bruins rule on November 05, 2010 at 08:25 AM

alex gets the win in this fight.

Posted by fernben8 on November 06, 2010 at 09:57 PM

The fight was over shadowed by Thorton's hit. Slight edge to Pietrangelo. Don't know why Thorton's in the box ? I feel he should either out of the game for the head shot or it's a legal shoulder hit ! It's one or the other ...the refs sat on the fence on this call. Looks like double standards to me because it's " Joe ". Agreeing with check on paper , but ?? crossed the line.

Posted by BlakesPoorBrain on November 05, 2010 at 12:48 AM

Pietrangelo is going to have a heck of a time if he tries fighting anyone else, but still a good first effort.

Posted by billy jack on November 05, 2010 at 01:36 PM

Good to see these guys go,it was a good tilt considering not a lot of scraps in their history.

Posted by b.t.wilson on November 06, 2010 at 07:58 PM

pathetic "please give me a suspension, pleeeeease!" hit by thornton leads to a pathetic fight by logan "please let me fight like stortini, pleeeeease!" couture. win p-i-e-t-r-a-n-g-e-l-o. PS - A) anyone whose argument entails calling people assholes and to eat dick, I don't take serious, whatsoever. B) if you say that it wasn't a dirty hit etc etc, the game used to be tougher, etc etc, its old time hockey etc etc, I, and most other who find these hits dirty, will agree with you once we are back to old time hockey equipment. Please don't be so ignorant.

Neither fighter gets loose so not much really happens. Edge Pietrangelo.

1:50 Perron: Fu*k me :D

Posted by kingpintoo on November 07, 2010 at 10:59 AM

Alex is a stud. Not only is he a top young defense man but he stood up for his teammate. He was trying to get to Thorton. Speaking as scum bags, WTF. Everyone says Joe is a good guy, clean player. Well the proof is in the pudding baby. Thortshit came out of the box and he lined Perron up and drove his shoulder into Perron's face in a pure, not only blindside, but sneak out of the box hit. In the immediate post impact, his right shoulder comes up showing how hard and intentional it was to nail a fellow professional in the face. In his last 3 seconds on the ice, two dirty hits. He was in the box for a dangerous hit. When I played, I would have dropped by shoulder and hit him at the hip and flipped him or dropped him legally. Clean and good and pretty and gets team going. Thortshit shows no respect for the professions in his league. When winning becomes more important than dirty hits on your opponents and fellow professional, you are no longer a good guy. You are an evil pissant. He is an embarrassment to himself, his team and his city. Someone needs to prove that what goes around comes around. Perron missed the next game at least, but scoring a key goal after the hit is Paul Kariya-esk. Good job Perron and Alex Pietrangelo. Blues kicked their ass too.

Posted by tjoshielover on January 13, 2011 at 05:10 PM

The hit was a big deal, still is, we all get it. Like it or not Pietrangelo was the clear cut winner. Petro is a rookie and he could take out more experenced

Posted by raechelodom on February 25, 2012 at 10:07 PM

For a guy (Pietrangelo) who doesn't fight much, pretty decent. That's what happens when you hurt a great player. you mess with the bull, you're gonna get the horns.

Posted by smoothlander on November 05, 2010 at 01:23 PM

Don't skate with your head down and you won't get popped. If you can't take a clean hit, then become a quarterback in the NFL. The NHL is now allowing guys to skate around with their eyes glued to the puck instead of looking up for hits like the one Joe put on Perron. I can never give a win to a guy that wears a shield and doesn't take it off prior to the fight. Win Courture in his NHL fighting debut.

Very dirty hit from Big Joe. Win Pietrangelo

Posted by gmr133 on November 05, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Draw. No real fight here. Cheap shot by Thornton. Not as bad as Cooke's nonsense, but still a cheap blind side sneaking out of the penalty box.

Posted by flyersfan0180 on November 05, 2010 at 12:13 AM

pretty much even. pietrangelo may have gotten the edge with a few lefts when he got coutures head down but still a draw. thornton will get a few games out from colin cambell for that hit too

Posted by FrankLexy on November 05, 2010 at 02:32 AM

Pietrangelo gets the win off size I dont think it was 10 gamer hit from Thornton, dirty cause he just hopped out of the box. but Perron had his face pointed at the puck coming his way...still the league should show they're serious about the Cooke rule and not give another star exemption a la Briere, but you know they will

Posted by chad420 on November 07, 2010 at 07:31 PM

win Little really looks like Perron did not get hit in the head & flopped....ive seen enough guys knocked out..a few last night, actually to notice when legs give out or are whipped out.....he recovered mad fast also

Posted by MetalMitts on November 05, 2010 at 03:40 AM

Not much to say about the so-called fight. The hit, on the other hand, was wrong by rule, but seriously back when hockey was an actual contact sport that is what was called a "Hospital Pass" and the passer of such a pass is the one that should get his ass kicked not the hitter. Unborn kids felt that one. Hoorah for old school hockey!

Posted by BigBadBruins68 on November 05, 2010 at 04:02 PM

That shit should get Thornton suspended, he was headhunting there. As for the fight, it was mostly wrestling and missed punches, but the edge goes to Pietrangelo.

Posted by tiburon4 on November 05, 2010 at 05:24 PM

Come on Couture, Randy can do waaaaaay better than that. he barely threw anything, Pietrangelo got an easy win.

Posted by stlbluenote11 on November 06, 2010 at 06:58 PM

Pietrangelo wins with the takedown and the lefts at the end. Thornton is a little bitch and should be suspended for at least 4 games for this game.
